Noah`s Ark

Post by Nereus »

Not sure if this should be in Foo?
Must be some damn good timber if it is 4800 years old?

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/mp ... explorers/

Explorers believe they have found Noah's Ark 4000m up a mountain in Turkey.

The team of Chinese and Turkish evangelists claim they recovered wooden specimens from a structure on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey and that carbon dating proved was 4800 years old, around the same time the ark is said to have been afloat.

"It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it," said Yeung Wing-cheung, a Hong Kong documentary filmmaker and member of the 15-strong team from Noah's Ark Ministries International.

The structure had several compartments, some with wooden beams, which were believed to house animals, he said.

The group of evangelical archaeologists ruled out an established human settlement on the grounds that one had never been found above 3500m in the vicinity, Yeung said.

Local Turkish officials will ask the central government in Ankara to apply for UNESCO World Heritage status so the site can be protected while a major archaeological dig is conducted, Yeung added.

The biblical story says God decided to flood the earth after seeing how corrupt it had become, and told Noah to build an ark and fill it with two of every animal species.

After the flood waters receded, the Bible says, the ark came to rest on a mountain. Many believe that Mount Ararat, the highest point in the region, is where the ark and her inhabitants came aground.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

This story doesn't hold water (pun intended :D ) because if God did things like that for that reason then Washington D.C. would have been underwater for decades!

Thankyou Sarge for the segue.... allow me to continue:

1) The wankers in question have NO sound basis for making their claims, and the findings of their so called research have been discredited by scientists. The Turks are just exploiting the situation to retain their shabby claims to Mt Ararat, which rightly belongs to the people of Armenia. Oh... and the word on the street from Hebrew scholars is that aint the same mountain mentioned in the Book of Noah.

2) Modern engineering and boatbuilding scientists have proven that it is IMPOSSIBLE to build a wooden boat to the dimensions stated in the Book of Noah due to a little inescapable rule of physics called the Square Root Rule. Wood is simply incapable of being made into a watertight and structurally sound boat of that size, as the rule means that the hull would need to be six feet thick at least. With the dimensions stated in the Bible the structure collapses under the least pressure - one good wave and it falls apart at the seams. If we cant do it now with modern tools and techniques, the an illiterate sheep herder in the arsehole of the Middle East using bronze age tools certainly couldnt.

2a) Theres also the little issue of where the wood came from. See any massive forests in The Palestine? NO...its a frickin dustbowl desert area.

3) The Book of Noah has been shown to be a total fabrication with NO evidence at all to support it in the climatic or geologic records. Literary analysis has further shown that the Book of Noah is in fact a shabby third hand plagarism of the flood part of The Epic of Gilgamesh, written some 1000 years before. The Jews in servitude brought the myth back on their return, and it ended up drifting into their own foundation myth cycle. They nicked the idea of monoethism from the Egyptians, so its no surprise they nicked foundation myths from eslewhere is it? Problem is there IS proof of a limited but still disasterous 30 foot flood in the Euphrates valley at the time of Gilgamesh, whereas the Palestine has NEVER been flooded.

No flood,
No Noah
No Ark

And finally:

Evangelicals are the same deluded f**kwit scum who believe the Earth is only 6000 years old and we are all descended from a Barbie and Ken common anscestor that lived in some divine allotment plot with a talking snake. They think The Flintstones was a documentary series. They also DONT believe in carbon dating except when they get to use it to falsely prove one of their own cretinous theories such as so called Intelligent Design or Irreducable Complexity. They are the worst of pseudo-scientific snake oil salesmen. F**kwits who believe in myths as the divine word of their invisible slave master above and therefore real history. Followers of a Rock and Roll Heresy. The enemies of Reason and Science. Children clinging to their fairy tales.

Scientists and archaeologists they AINT!

So is it an ark? NO ... it may and I stress MAY be petrified wood.

Are all Evangelicals anti-intellectual deliberately stupid skinwastes? YES

Does believing in any of the content of the Old Testament as actual historical fact make you a f**kwit too? YES it does. 60 years of Hebraic archaeology and related studies have shown that NONE of the stories in the Old testament are true. Joshua? All lies. Noah? All lies. Exodus...all lies....and so on and so on.

So if they cant prove any of it is true with all their vested interests in making it so .... IT ISNT.

and that, I would say, is the case for the prosecution.

Im sitting here shaking my head in disgust

I cant believe in the modern world of science and reason we still even give any creedance whatsoever to stupid f**king claims like finding Noahs Ark...why cant you see that this is a dumb as the Mormons claiming the frickin Garden of Eden was in Northern Missouri?

please humans.... grow the f**k up. There is no Santa Claus, there are no fairies, and there never was a Noah and his magic boat.

this is 2010 guys. Not 1010!

Latest Ark finding is a fake

Category: Creationism
Posted on: April 28, 2010 7:56 AM, by PZ Myers

This is completely unsurprising. An account from Randall Price has emerged; Price is a notorious Ark-hunter, young earth creationist, and professor at Liberty University, so he has good kook credentials and is the kind of guy who desperately wants the recent claims of the discovery of Noah's Ark to be true, making this an admission contrary to his biases…of course, it turns out he also has a money motive to begrudge the Chinese evangelicals their 'discovery'. But this is also a familiar story.

I was the archaeologist with the Chinese expedition in the summer of 2008 and was given photos of what they now are reporting to be the inside of the Ark. I and my partners invested $100,000 in this expedition (described below) which they have retained, despite their promise and our requests to return it, since it was not used for the expedition. The information given below is my opinion based on what I have seen and heard (from others who claim to have been eyewitnesses or know the exact details).

To make a long story short: this is all reported to be a fake. The photos were reputed to have been taken off site near the Black Sea, but the film footage the Chinese now have was shot on location on Mt. Ararat. In the late summer of 2008 ten Kurdish workers hired by Parasut, the guide used by the Chinese, are said to have planted large wood beams taken from an old structure in the Black Sea area (where the photos were originally taken) at the Mt. Ararat site. In the winter of 2008 a Chinese climber taken by Parasut's men to the site saw the wood, but couldn't get inside because of the severe weather conditions. During the summer of 2009 more wood was planted inside a cave at the site. The Chinese team went in the late summer of 2009 (I was there at the time and knew about the hoax) and was shown the cave with the wood and made their film. As I said, I have the photos of the inside of the so-called Ark (that show cobwebs in the corners of rafters - something just not possible in these conditions) and our Kurdish partner in Dogubabyazit (the village at the foot of Mt. Ararat) has all of the facts about the location, the men who planted the wood, and even the truck that transported it.

A similar phenomenon took place in Paluxy River, Texas. Some creationists find fossil footprints that look vaguely (to the biased eye) human, pretty soon a flood of evangelical Christians are searching the area for confirmation, and very quickly, the locals, being no dummies and seeing a tourism goldmine, start carving up even better footprints.

You can hardly blame the Turks around Ararat. There's a lot of money being poured into the local economy from these numerous creationist expeditions. It only makes sense to salt a few sites with chunks of wood.
NB: P Z MYERS is a REAL scientist with real qualifications and a respected source of reliable intelligence, not a creationist dimwit with a worthless shabby qualification from a "faith based" baptist university.

Id say that is CASE CLOSED

this 4,000 year old wood found by the Black sea are not boats normally found near WATER

maybe it is Noahs Ark and they have just moved it to where the bible says it should be

maybe vandals moved it from the mountain 3,500 years ago because they couldnt sell the crap story back then let alone now

or applying Ochams Razor this is another shabby pack of pseudo-scientists mking up evidence for their stupid book of fairy tales.

Look

whenever you see a claim made on news, the History/Discovery/Nat Geo channels about any so called archaeology or scientific claim made in support of the Creationist agenda, take a look here

http://michaelsheiser.com/PaleoBabble/ - PaleoBabble Blog - scientific refutation of all claims made by creationist teams

http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html - TalkOrigins - more of the same evidence that Creationists have been making stupid claims for the past 150 years, have deliberately misread or falsified evidence, and have always been refuted by hard science.

Take a read - it makes for amusing and interesting reading just how fucked in the head these deluded dimwits are.
