When England won the World cup in 1966
• The majority of the English first division players were English and foreigners came from Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
• Internationally travelling fans were rare
• England played in gray on most TVs.
• Sponsership was minimal, Loyalty branding was still considered as medieval punishment
• Diving was still just a minor Olympic sport
• Football scouts didn’t need passports
• Football was exported to former colonies as a diversion
Any other suggestions
what has changed in English football since 1966?
Re: what has changed in English football since 1966?
Fair shoulder charging was considered acceptable, intimidating goalkeepers was was a side-issue spectator sport. Rival fans were not segregated, I was at the 1966 final and stood (another change) beside German fans. Replica shirts didn`t exist.(There should be a law banning the wearing of these shirts by anyone aged over 25 or more than 15 stone). There was still a certain amount of sympathy for Man U because of the Munich disaster. Match of the day showed more action and less "expert" chatter.
