Animal Welfare Groups?

Post by dotx »

At the risk of sounding incredibly naive, I'm wondering if anybody knows of any groups in Hua Hin that work helping or rescuing stray animals. I read an article (http://www.expathuahin.com/pet-care-huahin.php) that suggests there are volunteer groups working on the issue, but I have no idea on how to go about finding them. Any suggestions?

If you intened to help Check with immigration about the need for a work permit, they are red hot in Hua Hin.

dotx,

Welcome to the Forum.

There used to be the Hua Hin Dog Rescue Centre but they had to relocate a couple of hours South.

If you follow this link http://www.bangsaphanguide.com/forum/vi ... ?f=1&t=234 it will take you to our sister Forum, and I believe the article that opens is the organisation that you might be looking for.

Sorry to be unconventional and to the point, but sure some will do the 'Kid Gloves Routine'......but.......

Hot potato issue this one is. You'll find that this is a topic that creates a reaction anywhere from the 'lovey-dovey crap' about 'All animals are to be helped' regardless of whether the are a danger to all, to the opposite side of that there should be an indiscriminate cull to be carried out with extreme prejudice as all the mongels should be cleared up so there are no more children attacked and disfigured for nothing. Do you really need a dog that resembles a hound of the apocalypse?

Perhaps a post in "Introductions" would be a good before you launch into such a controversial subject.

Don't be surprised if some of the posts are negative man, many have no sense of humour for animals that appear as if they belong in the book of revelations.

Don't even get me started on this subject as it will become very un-PC.

Thanks, Big Boy. I googled the group's name but can't access their website (http://www.headrockdogs.org.uk). It's either blocked here (I'm currently in Vietnam) or it's down. If you can open it, could you tell me if they have a contact email/phone number? Thanks so much again.

Sorry, but I didn't come here to debate whether dogs should be helped or not. I don't really need people to agree with me and whoever comes here to tell me I'm an idiot for wanting to get involved will just look like a moron on my book. This is a cause I believe in and I really don't need to debate it with people who think I'm wrong. I appreciate any helpful comments and guidance like the kind provided by Big Boy. Like I said, I didn't come here for a fight --I just came looking for information. Those with nothing useful to say can simply move along.

I have looked around that site, and no contact detail that would be of any help.

I would suggest that you go back to our sister Forum http://www.bangsaphanguide.com/forum/ and register. You could then either respond to the last thread I gave you, or PM dogsdinner.

Alternatively, one of our members lindosfan1 used to help out. He might respond to this thread, or you could PM him. He's moved away from Thailand now, but often pops onto the Forum.

Thanks. Will do. I tried to register but I'm not getting the confirmation email. Maybe it's just my internet acting up, so I'll try again tomorrow. Will PM lindosfan1 as well. Thanks again.

As well as Lindosfan - who BB mentioned - Dawn also still views the forum and hopefully will contact you. She used to run HH Dog Rescue.
For what it's worth I think it's admirable for people to want to do something useful with their time. Dawns' approach was to try to reduce the numbers of stray pups born to soi dogs. Something which Thais rarely bother about. They would rather just cull, regardless of the fact that many soi dogs are some of the best pals you will ever find. There are of course the hopelessly feral as well, and I can understand the concern about rabies and attacks on children.
Best of luck dotx - don't expect an easy ride though. Particularly with the locals.

Hi dotx

I know of a few people working voluntarily in this area.

You can phone Josette Fisher at 032-542595 (home) or 081-3843701 (email josettefisher at yahoo dot com).

I spoke to her last night and she would be delighted to hear from you (though she will be away from the end of this week until the end of the month).

I'm also pm'ing you the number of another lady you can contact, who works separately from Josette.
