Some good news for a change.
PATTANI, March 11 (TNA)
Despite being surrounded by violence-plagued areas, Mae Lan District in Thailand's southernmost province of Pattani has now become the first peaceful area in the deep South.
More than 1,000 people, including religious and community leaders, as well as local authorities, representatives of the private sector and villagers, attended a ceremony, presided by Pattani Governor Phanu Urairat, on Friday to declare the district--all villages and sub-districts--as the first peaceful area--not only in the province itself, but also in the whole troubled southern border region, which include neighbouring Yala and Narathiwat Provinces.
In the declaration, all the local groups vowed to
collaborative to take care of each other, particularly children, youths, the elderly and the underprivileged, and from now on never to allow any part of the district to be involved in insurgency in all forms.
They vowed to keep their agreed cooperation and promises for sake of the lasting peace in the district.
