Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2010

A huge chunk of land has been cleared for parking opposite the Intercontinental (where it looks like the main stage will be) which is good news, Petchkasem is likely to be pretty solid all weekend though. There are also reports of a free shuttle bus between the two venues.

Had a great time yesterday at the JF, looks like they're taking the sponsorship a little too seriously, nearly wouldn't let us in because we had a Heineken esky from previous years!

The Intercontinental stage was definitely the better of the two, a lot more space and a better lineup. Band of the day goes to The Brass Munkeys from the Philippines who were fantastic.

Sofitel stage was the usual overcrowded affair with an incoming tide.

Heard from 2 different sources that the Friday night turnout near the Sofitel was not much more than 300!!!!!!!

My daughter told me that she couldn't get anywhere near the Sofitel on Friday night because of the crowds - I guess they were all making their way to the Night Market

Didn't make it on Friday but Saturday was heaving, it took a good half hour to get from Burger King to the beach, of course all of these idiots still wanted to drive to within 6 meters of the sand. The Intercontinental was definitely the better of the two in my opinion; better organised, available parking, a lot more space to sit and walk, and a good lineup. It was also nice to have a choice of beer this year instead of just Schmeineken.

Having been to pretty much every jazz fest that has run (this was the ninth) the novelty has started to wear off ... either that or I'm getting old and can't be bothered with the heaving evening crowds any more. Combine this with a steady flow of cold beer and the results are a very pleasant afternoon on the beach and increasingly blurry photos later on (the camera can do only so much!).

That didn't stop the kids trying to trash the place though:

I'm surprised nobody else has contributed to this thread about their experiences at Hua Hin's largest annual event ... unless everybody stayed in to watch the World Cup (there were notably fewer farangs at the JF this year).

I think you might be right about the football; there's been a musical festival here in Luxembourg over the last week and that had a very low turn-out on some nights as well.
As for the Jazz festival, I've been a couple of times in the past and the second venue at the Intercontinental seems like a good idea as the beach near the Sofitel just gets too busy.

Bit of both I suspect. Less tourists in town and many residents staying at home to watch the world cup.

On the two occasions I've ventured down to the Sofitel stage they crush getting there and the crush leaving there were unbearable.

Should have walked down from my condo to the Inter stage. your photos showed a far more spacious arena

As Bigboy closed the post on 'Jazz in the Town' topic then it is mean, there is no 'Jazz in the Town', then only 'Jazz on the beach'. Is this correct? Any guru know please...

Thank you caller, i mean...... once i went to Huahin on 'Jazz in the Town' year 2008, it was fantastic, where i could spend time enjoy Huahin food-tasting never ending road while we could stop and listen to those Jazz music band at many stages from one to another with different friend groups. It was nice and still in my memory.

Does Huahin going to have it or no more?
