This is going to drive you insane Dotx as there's no where in Thailand where you can guarantee you won't see a snake from time to time, unless you live in a condo, but then there's still that chance. You can say the same thing about living in California, Texas, Florida etc. If you lived in VN and Cambodia you had snakes, you just didn't encounter them. People find snakes even in Bangkok in their back yard and other not so likely places, like their kitchens.dotx wrote:So why exactly would they come into your yard? If there are open spaces around your house, wouldn't it make more sense to look for food there? And does having a pool make the attraction stronger?
I've never heard that swimming pools attract snakes, although if they encounter a pool they will swim across it rather than go around. That I've seen. They just then get out at the other side and go on their way.
Snakes are most active at night, not in the heat of the day. They come onto property because that's usually where an abundance of mice, rats and frogs are because people water gardens which frogs like, and people leave trash about which is what mice and rats like. The snakes follow the abundant food.
Keep your place tidy and gardens trimmed, and put down bait for mice/rats if you see them around, and keep your dogs in the house at night (and away from the rat bait), and you should be OK. Just don't dwell on it our your stay here will be miserable. Pete
