Does Bangkok Bank have a branch in London?

Post by Spitfire »

I keep hearing that it does from a couple of people, but only one mind you, and that it's the only real international Thai bank. Anyone know for sure or where the branch is if it exists, or is it just a myth? If there is one then couldn't it be an easy way round some of the banking problems we face here (at ldeast for UK people)? Or am I just being hopelessly optimistic? Cheers.

I saw one near the Gherkin last September (09) - Moja appears to be spot on, I guess St Mary Axe is near there?

They also have a branch in New York so they are an international Thai bank.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

The London details are all correct, it is in St Mary Axe, next to the Gherkin. However, it is useless. It is an international business bank, and is not linked to the Bangkok Bank retail business in Thailand.

Unless it has all changed since I last tried it.

They have this service concerning the London branch. Almost identical to what they can do from their New York branch. Pete

Spitfire,

The Bangkok Bank facility in London is what's known as a holding bank.

I've been using them for the past eight years.

My pension is paid into B.B. London and transferred here 4 working days later.

They charge a flat fee of 16 pounds.

You can instruct them to remit as and when to suit your needs.

Doesn't the bank previously known as Thai Farmers have a branch in London as well?

London is one of the top financial centers in the world. The fact that apparenty no active Thai bank exists here must tell you all something...

So it's possible for Bangkok Bank customers(account holders) to walk into Bangkok Banks New York branch office and withdrawal all of their money from their account?

No idea. The referenced link about London was "transferring funds UK to Thailand". The identical service is available from New York: http://www.bangkokbank.com/Bangkok%20Ba ... 20USA.aspx

I could find nothing about withdrawals from a Thailand account in either London or New York. Pete

More....I didn't notice this at the bottom of the New York page:

"Important Note
You cannot transfer funds from Bangkok Bank's account in Thailand to your account with banks or online payment service providers in the US via Bangkok Bank's New York branch and the ACH system. If you initiate direct debit or ACH debit transactions to Bangkok Bank's New York branch, banks in the US and online payment service providers may suspend your account."

If the only way of moving your funds between accounts in the West and Thailand is by a standard international transfer, there doesn't seem to be much advantage to having an account with them in London as any old high-street bank can do that.
