longterm stay in huahin
longterm stay in huahin
We need some ideas of how to stay in Hua Hin for several years. we are a couple in their 40s and have 2 school age children. Mom is sick so frequent runs across the border is not feasible for her. We do have a townhouse there. We are Americans.

we are in our 40s and do not qualify for retirement visa
Re: longterm stay in huahin
You either need a education visa or a work permit if you are in your 40's.
It's nothing else to choose between except making a few trips to neighbouring countries to get your passport stamped.
You have to be over 50 y.o. to get a one year visa + the necessary income of course. ( Isn't it 65.000 Baht a month)?

At least your Mum will be eligible to apply for a retirement visa - given that she can satisfy income requirements.
You won't all get that as a family - Mum is going to have to be looking at a different visa to you and your partner and kids. That won't matter, providing you can all get there together!
I would suggest the main issue though is Mums' health, and what treatment she may need there. There's a similar thread somewhere going back several months by a lady in the UK. User name Siani.

Hi,
I just came back from Hua Hin after 18 months there with my
family (wife and three young kids).
Visa: if your children go to school there they will get education visa
and that gives you Guardian visa. One Guardian per child.
Hope this will help you.

lis, what age are the children? As mentioned above, they can get an education visa and you can stay as the guardian. They must attend a school that is licenced by the Ministry of Education... an alternative is for you / or spouse get a ED Visa to learn Thai and the dependants can get a O Visa to cover them as long as you continue to study.

How strict are they with the EdVisas? How many days a week do you need to go to class? And can you flunk out and lose your visa? How often would you need to do a run to the border? Also I heard that you need a lot of money in the bank to get a guardian visa, is that true? if so how much? Is that per adult?
Sorry for all the questions...just trying to get my ducks in a row

No.. just attend class..How often would you need to do a run to the border? Never.. Also I heard that you need a lot of money in the bank to get a guardian visa, is that true? ED-visa... we are accepted to learn Thai language in Thailand (all the paperworks etc. ok) BUT Thai embassy in Helsinki Finland is not admitting us non immigrant ED visa!!! They said that no more agree, except if you are young and you are going to study like an exchange student there and you have to have certificate from the school in your country!!!
We were also told by the Thai Laguage -school that never have happened that you can not get it but YES now happened.
Lady from the school called to the embassy in Helsinki but answear was same. NO NO NO...
(I know there is countries that can not accept but Finland is not there on the list) So we have to take only tourist visa to come and see what happens! I have one year work sharing ("sabbath") from my work and house there in Hua Hin. Sad that we have to
change all our plans.
