Re: 2018 World Cup
Australia got my vote based on the same reason as why the US got it back in 1994, FIFA would like the football to grow down under.
Re: 2018 World Cup
I'm going to have to say England. They have the advantage of the facilities built for the 2012 Olympics, the most followed football in the world with the Premier League, and the location to attract full capacity attendance.
The selection is not until December this year for both 2018 and 2022 and I think the committee will wait and see the attendance in South Africa before they decide about Australia. I think SA attendance will not be good simply because of location and cost/difficulty of getting there. Australia is in the same boat.
Spain/Portugal could well get it as well. I think down to England - Spain/Portugal. Pete

Re: 2018 World Cup
From what I've seen of the England bid, they don't really make use of the Olympics infrastructure. The 2 areas bidding that are closest to me, Plymouth and Bristol are looking at developing brand new grounds etc - none of which will be available for the Olympics.
My thoughts - 40,000+ stadiums in Plymouth and Bristol will be lonely places outside of the World Cup.
The vote - England for reasons of loyalty alone.

Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Re: 2018 World Cup
my england vote was patriotic too.
i think we are currently just about favourites though.
looking at the other venues;
australia?- good choice of venue & a good chance. the negatives are, the coming tournament is s africa & 2014 is in brazil. are the euro nations gonna be keen on another trip to the other side of the world??
japan?- they joint hosted with s korea in 2002 so doubt whether they'll get the nod again, plus like OZ, another far off jaunt for euro teams.
spain/portugal?- spain had the w/c in 1982 & portugal the euros in 2004, maybe to soon for another tournament?
holland/belgium?- they had the euros in 2000 so again maybe to soon but second favourite in my opinion
russia?- never had a major tournament but may lose out in political terms.
maybe success for the euros in poland/ukraine will have a bearing?
personally i would prefer the tournament to be hosted by nations that have never had the opportunity, so russia & australia would be my favourites

Re: 2018 World Cup
The esteemed leader of England`s bid, Lord Triesman, pushed out because of his accusations of bribery against Spain and Russia made to his "bit on the side". Guess what? She was recording it for publication in a national newspaper. We shall see if this affects England`s chances. What a p***k, then again he is a Tottenham fan!

It was a stupid thing to say but our press are a disgrace.

England as the winners of the 2010 world cup have earned the right to host it...

Re: 2018 World Cup
FA cup in Australia?
Issues are:
Big distances, airlines would love to be sponsors
Big variety in locations from tropical (Cairns) to cold (Mel’bum)
Big crowds (novelty)
Same time zone as Asia (biggest TV audience)
Boringly stable country
Good track record
Plenty of venues
Australia doesn’t really expect to win the cup, best chance for England to win outside England.
Nowhere near volcanoes.
Russell Crowe can’t kick.

Hopefully Australia - it's the furthest away from England

Re: 2018 World Cup
I voted for Australia, because I hear more than enough footy talk in my local.
But it will still be all over UK telly for weeks.
I'll get my coat.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Re: 2018 World Cup
I have voted for the Netherlands and Belgium of course.
Even the tournament will be spread over 2 countries, all venues will be in close range.
This means less traveling and less CO2 emissions.
All other choises will cause more harm to the environment.
