Working with a Student Visa?

Post by david83 »

Does anyone know if you are allowed to work part-time on a student visa?
From previous experience studying there is a lot of spare time and not so much spare cash so that would help a lot, just anything to keep the hands busy so I don´t spend all my money on lazying in the bars

Or is it "safe" to work even without a permit?

Do not know 100% but i think you cannot work on a Student Visa.
Be very very careful about working without a permit. The labour department are in town more and more regularly. That little blue book needs to be at your side.

The only way you can legally work is with a work permit. With a student visa the only thing that you can do is study!!!

Have a good time anyway or go to Aussie where there are plenty of legal student visa jobs.

Thanks for the quick responses... Seems like I won´t be working now then, I think I´ll manage without working but just thought it would be nice with something to do really, outside of school, and somehow I´m always spending too much money on stupid things  when idle it would have saved me alot...

Mahidol lists on their website that it is legal for student to work up to 20 hours a week but I think for a foriegn student the activity must be confined to teaching.

I think you can get away with it. But the interested person should do some further research.

Big A, J.W,

Thanks for the answers, I e-mailed the immigration lady at Stamford and asked about the possibility to work and it seems like you can work part-time if the school lets you. She said that some companies want, wild guess is translation work done, students and contact the school to find suitable help.

Might be good to know for both students and employers who want cheap skilled workers
