This could be the week that Chelsea stumbles. Lampard is still out as well as the three injured in the Carling match. Lampard was expected back but now it may be this match plus another two, including the Arsenal match. :( Pete

Arsenal property deals send profits to record high

Arsenal Football Club has announced record pre-tax profits of £56m.

The Premier League club also said it had paid off all debt on its Highbury Square property development of flats, built on the ground of its old stadium.

Figures covering the year to May 2010 showed that pre-tax group profits went up by £10.5m compared with the previous 12 months.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: "The group has made good progress in the last year."

The company said it had sold 362 private apartments at Highbury Square, the site of its former home ground.

Those and a social housing site nearby generated £156.9m revenue from property and allowed it to repay £129.6m of bank loans.

The overall level of group net debt had fallen from £297.7m last year to £135.6m.

Turnover grew from £313m to £379.9m.
Player sales

Operating profit before depreciation and player trading in the football business was £56.8m, down from £62.7m the year before after wage costs rose.

Profit from player trading was £13.6m, well above 2009's £2.9m, with the main contributions coming from the sales of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure.

Commenting on the results for the year, Peter Hill-Wood, the club's non-executive chairman, said: "We now have a debt-free property business, which is accumulating surplus cash as further unit sales are made at Highbury Square, and which has three further property assets to realise over the next few years."

Matters were less clearly positive on the football side.

Mr Gazidis said: "The competitive landscape makes it ever tougher to achieve success on the field and standing still is simply not, and never has been, an option for the club.

"It is important that we continue to develop a vibrant and robust business with sufficient revenues to sustain success."

For what its worth, my nephew was one of the architects involved in the development of the flats on the old Arsenal ground, he was also very impressed by Chelsea's (no longer so) new West Stand.

Odd fact about the old West Stand. The original design had plans for cars to park on the roof!!!! The stadium was very, very, different then. :?

Unexpected loss for Arsenal, WBA played well, we didn`t. Just proves to Allardyce that you don`t have to kick Arsenal off the pitch to win.

Bit of a surprise that, WBA played well at Anfield, we were lucky to beat them but that's still a bit of a shocker. Also expected Chelsea to steamroller Citeh but no shame in losing away to the arab billionaires i suppose. Not a betting mans day today.

Liverpool were as shit as usual, we played in 10 minute spells. Lost what little faith I had in Hodgson already, top teams swarm all over the likes of Sunderland from the front, he has them sat back like Fulham. 80% of this team beat Real Madrid 4-0 2 years ago. Wouldn't be sad to see he him go, he's woeful, panders to the press and Fergies minions and is the Cancerous boards appointment.

He slated the fans for todays protests, bye Roy, nice fella, not a Liverpool coach.

I didn't want him in the first place, he's not done anything to prove me wrong, on or off the pitch, he actually seems to be trying his best to alienate the fans judging by his press conferences, he's the owners patsy, I'd love a manager with a bit of fight in them.

We should aim high and try and get the Manager of the current European Champions.............. Oh wait!!!

Seriously, when he was signed I thought it was a good move, and that he could do a Shankley for the club. How wrong I was. Maybe there's no room for another Shankley in the modern game. Or maybe he's just not good enough.
