You can compare the notes to TT (The ATM rate) of all the banks.

The buy rate at the banks today is 46.98. Every major town here has money changers usually in the form of a pawn shop or similar. Sometimes the signs are only in Thai. The rates are usually better than the banks. We talked about those in Hua Hin before, but it's been a few years. Perhaps a local resident can update on these 'grey market' exchange facilities. Pete

Crocket,
Don't even consider exchanging any money in the UK - you'll be totally ripped off. Even if you need money as soon as you arrive in Thailand, change it at the airport in Bankok. There are plenty of places, and the exchange rate is much better.

Welcome to the forum.
Also be aware that you can use most UK bank cards in Thai ATM machines as long as you've got something internationally recognised like Visa electronic.

Unless you've already got a few Baht, it will be better, cheaper and easier to get some when you're at the airport in Bangkok. If you're going to use your ATM, don't forget they charge you 150 Baht for each transaction.

Re: Exchange rate info please.
Many people ask my advice on this topic..most of them don't believe me when I suggest waiting to buy
Thai Baht at the airport on arrival..??
Is it just me or do airports have a bad rep. on this practice..?
I just pop to a booth while waiting for my bag to arrive,& always get a decent rate of exchange.

I think it probably has something to do with the way you'd get ripped off at an airport in the UK.

Re: Exchange rate info please.
The banks really can't be bothered setting different rates for their different kiosks so an airport bank window is the same as anywhere else. I wouldn't waste time chasing around to different bank windows either (unless you like that sort of activity on your holiday), the rates are all within a p-hair of each other.
Change your money when you arrive and bring traveller's cheques in your own currency - safer and a better rate than cash.

Beg to differ but in my experience BKK airport gives about 1 THB less on the dollar exchange rate than the high street Banks or Kiosks. Worldwide airport exchanges nearly always give a lower rate.johnnyk wrote:The banks really can't be bothered setting different rates for their different kiosks so an airport bank window is the same as anywhere else.

I have never experienced that exchanging the Pound, but even if it's true, the rate will still be a lot better than you can get in your home country.Condoking wrote:Beg to differ but in my experience BKK airport gives about 1 THB less on the dollar exchange rate than the high street Banks or Kiosks. Re: Exchange rate info please.
BKK Airport always been good 4 me with Pounds...but johnnyk has a point about bringing T/Cs..
..if ya can get em at a good price in UK then bring ya dosh over with them, & get the extra Baht per £
at the exchanges.
(It's summat I've never considered, but may be the way to go..??)

Re: Exchange rate info please.
There is a downside with T/Cs - they charge for every cheque that you change, so ensure that you get large denominations. You bank will probably try to give you a variety of £20 and £50 denomiations - insist on £100 units only.
