90 Day reporting

Post by Nereus »

I put this here as a matter of general interest, as most of you will probably report in Hua Hin.

I am in Bangkok most of the time and own a Condo there. My visa records, and therefore my retirement extension is done in Hua Hin, as I have a house there as well. My 90 day report was due on last Monday, and as I am in Bangkok I went via BTS / MRT to the new "one stop service centre" at Chamchuree Sq building, accessible from Sam Yan MRT station. I have reported here one time before, I think it was 6 months ago, without any problem. This time: "cannot do here"!
A long discussion followed with the officer who was most apologetic, and said that she also thought it was ridiculous that I could not do it there. She then went and got a notice, printed in English, that was displayed on the front desk. Here, in plain English it stated: " foreigners can only request an exit re-entry permit, and report 90 days at this office. ALL other matters must be done at the office where you obtained your last extension".

"Oh, that is wrong, she says, we will have to change it". So I politely requested to see "the boss" that she kept referring to as "she". "Have to wait, busy". OK. I wait, fully expecting to be ignored, but after about 10 minutes she came and took me to the "boss", who turned out to be a bloke that spoke good English, AND has a house in Hua Hin!

He also agreed that it was wrong not to be able to do it at any office, and told me that it had only changed with the last change of the "big boss". It also has something to do with which sub-division the office is. He did tell me that if I was away from Hua Hin, for example Koh Samui like I was a couple of months ago, then the report CAN be done at those offices.

The upshot of it was that I had to go to the "main" office in Chaeng Wattana Rd. For anybody that has never been there it is worth going just to look at the building itself, plus several other huge buildings in the same area, including the armed forces headquarters. Any country that can construct buildings like that can not be called "third world"!

Immigration have only one part of the building, and it was very busy but well organised. I had to wait in the queuing system for about 50 minutes with 41 people ahead of me. The report was accepted without comment, apart from complaining about the poor quality photo copy form, which had been given to me by Hua Hin office!

So, virtually 2 days wasted, although better than having to drive to Hua Hin just to lodge the report. I did ask about doing it by email, but got the blank look for my effort! I believe that it can be done by registered post, but if the last couple of days run around is any indication I have my doubts about that. :|

I'd have thought a round trip of less than 5 hours would probably been quicker. :?

It would be better if we did not have to do it at all! I also have a new passport on order, which will not arrive until next week, after which I will have to drive to Hua Hin to both get the visa transferred, and renew my extension.

When I lived in Pattaya I got a new passport. I'm on retirement visa, I asked to transfer the re-entry permit as it was still valid to new passport. All I got was smart ass "what do you want papa" from immigration official.

smart ass "what do you want papa"
I think you will find this is a translation of a polite way to speak to an older person.
Is this the I'm bored/ retired and have so much time on my hands that I do not have time to do anything thread?
Could be worse you could be in the UK or Australia or even the USA.
But at least be thankful that you are not forced to live in Chaam

What is your problem, Mr. poosmate? This is not the first time that you have made some sarcastic comment on somebody's post. If it does not interest you, then why comment on it????

I know what it is to a Thai and I know what it is to me, he is a smart ass Thai speaking to me.

The mere fact that Thailand has a different culture than mine does not make it a absolute polite culture (not to be challenged) to the rest of the world.

I live here because I want to. Does not mean that Thainess cannot be improved upon. Culture evolves over time.

Nothing sarcastic at all. Just trying to explain to an obvious non English native speaker that " what you want Papa " if directly translated into Thai would be a polite way to address someone is older and who's name you did not know.

Moaning and groaning about having to report to the office that YOU have chosen to deal with your affairs. Driving straight to the office would seem a simple task.Maybe you feel this is sarcastic?
You choose What you post and I get to choose what I reply. This is an open forum.
Maybe try send yourself a Pm and keep it secret then I promise not to reply ( sarcasm )

I think it may be you that needs to study English. I have NOT moaned about anything, just stated the facts so that it may benefit somebody else. Whether I choose to drive anywhere was NOT the point of the post, as I stated at the start!

chambers dictionary" MOAN intrans, colloq to complain, especially without good reason".
complain verb (complained, complaining) intrans to express dissatisfaction or displeasure
I'll stick with calling it a moan. :)

Google lets me study English. :thumb:

Non English native speaker?? Who is that may I ask that you are explaining too.
I am from Hawaii USA, raised speaking English. Also speak Thai and have been here many years.

This is not the proper response to a direct question to him. This is coming from a smart ass immigration worker at Pattaya immigration not Hua Hin. This is not a polite response to "Can I transfer my Visa to the new passport." And yes he has my name as my passport is in his hands.

I moved here to get away from the likes of this. I find the Hua Hin immigration bunch civil and helpful. Now for the Farang posters.......

The language you have been brought up with and are using is AMERICAN. It used to be English but you failed to grasp it and understand it fully so you changed it and made it simpler. :duck:

 I saw that one coming many miles away. Not to worry Tony, the residents of the British Isles were grunting at each other until the Germans and later the French arrived. All we Americans have done is evolve the language to a higher and more practical level. :D  Pete
