Biggles Big Band playing in Hua Hin
Biggles Big Band playing in Hua Hin
Yes, it sounds strange but it is the name of the big orchestral-type band playing in the Red Cross park (just down from the train station) tonight and tomorrow (26/27th). Get along there if you're a music fan.

Any idea of the performance time?

Not sure, evening I would imagine - someone mentioned it to me today so don't have many details.

Thanks anyway, Buks. I do hope they play better than market their playing.

I was there and a very pleasant experience it was; nice Big Band - Glen Miller - Frank Sinatra type of jazz very expertly performed.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, the band is going to play again. They'll start playing at 20.00 hrs and shall play until late.
And yes, there's food and beer available, so you need not worry.

Yes, there are literally hundreds of small events, concerts and festivals around town and whoever is responsible for marketing them obviously only wants to do it in Thai using a few tacky posters dotted here and there.Farang wrote: I do hope they play better than market their playing.
To get an idea of what does go on here and what is not publicised in English to foreigners have a look here:

Nearly every week a new event/concert/festival is added.
Did you get any pics of the band?

Don't know I'd say hundreds, but quite a few. Next 'big thing' people might miss is the beach concert on Sat. 6 November. There are posters all over town, but almost entirely in Thai. Actually the line up is quite good, with killer bands like T-Bone, Teddy Ska, and Paradox. Expect a zillion Bangkok teenagers and young adults, with accompanying hideous traffic. But it's quite a good show.Yes, there are literally hundreds of small events, concerts and festivals around town and whoever is responsible for marketing them obviously only wants to do it in Thai using a few tacky posters dotted here and there.

The next night is a jazz-jam party at Baan Chang in Cha-Am, and the following day starts a week-long festival at the "19 rai" by the beach between sois 19 and 35
For an English-language listing, check out The Hua Hin Arts Guide, http://huahinartsguide.com. I'm doing my best to vacuum up all these un- and badly publicized events and get them in one place. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.

I forgot. Tonight there's a fine British blues guitarist, Andy Martin, playing at Souay Vista Social Club, a new place on soi 94. It's nearly a kilometer from Petchkasem, and there's a 'jog right' in the road. Don't give up, you'll get there.
