Hi MB

Just like to mention to you that there's a German speaking section under EURO Countries and we would welcome you to participate either here or there...

Willkommen unter diesem Forum. 553 Tage vergehen schnell vorallem wenn man 60 Jahre jung ist. Die deutschsprachige Sektion ist unter EURO Länder.

Wir könnten die Unterstützung brauchen.

Guten Tag.

SteveG & icebear,

many thanks for welcoming me to this site.

Lots of things to plan and prepare, before we finally make the big move.
First of all we have to buy a house - in May 2012.

I believe I shall enjoy participating in both forums, the English and the German one.

Our systematic planning will begin in January.
I'm sure I shall have to ask you folks a lot of questions.

Kind regards,

Mike aka "Major Bloodnok", formerly The GOONS.

Welcome to the forum MBN. Guess I'm on the "Ignore" list with my name and avatar then.

Good you didn't use 'lust' instead of 'nok' then eh?

Hello Spitfire,

many thanks for your reply.

I do like your avatar and nickname. Most probably a new Spitfire Calendar will adorn one of my office walls next year.

Have a nice day.

Kind regards,

Mike

Why do you have to buy a house first of all?

Why do I have to buy a house first of all?

Post by MajorBloodnok »

Well, we have been living in rented accomodation here in Germany since 1979.
My wife is adamant we should not have to bother to pay a monthly rent any more.
A small inheritance should allow us to pay for a Hua Hin bungalow in cash, living on our combined pensions.

Question: Why am I not authorised to add a signature?

Welcome Aboard!

Agree with M Right. Would nt rush to buy a house out here. Lots of choice! Hopefully your exchange rate will be better in two years!

Rent first, take your time and tread carefully and you should be Ok?? Just my take on things.

Yeah..welcome Major B.
Its sound advice (if you can convince the wife) to rent here a while, then take time to get the
'big picture' of the houses & areas in and around HH. Good luck,& happy retirement.
(we have some German friends that visit HH all year round..they teach skydiving to the Thai paras here).

Yes, welcome to the board Major. I give a strong second to what others have said above about patience. I know people in Thailand who were blinded by the excitement of the retirement/move and bought too quickly and regretted it later for a variety of reasons; structural faults, bad/illegal contracts signed in haste, bad neighbors, antiquated utilities, flood area, and simply finding a neighborhood they liked much better after the fact.

It is really best to rent something for the first 6 months to a year and take the time to search for that dream home. Pete

Thanks for your valuable advice

Good afternoon all of you chaps,

just settled in my office.
I communicate via my office computer. Buying a private pc can wait till I move to Hua Hin.

I do appreciate your advice, but persuading the missus will not be easy.
At least we may extend our exploratory stay to 3 weeks or more to make a more informed decision on where and what to buy.

Hoping to stay in touch, and perhaps to meet some of you in person in 2012.

Still looking for advice why I am not authorised to define a signature.

Have a nice day.

P.S. No "Welcome" on the German page so far.

I hope you won't mind if I stick with you chaps.
