Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally 2010
Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally 2010
The Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally will feature some of the best kept and immaculately restored cars seen within Thailand and is a showcase of the finest in vintage vehicles.
Previous years of the rally have seen more than 60 classic cars taking part in the rally which covers a total distance of 225km as the drivers take the leisurely route from Bangkok to Hua Hin. The emphasis is definitely on cruising rather than racing as the drivers show off their cars and parade the hard work that goes into restoring many of these classics.
The event starts at The Sofitel Central Plaza in Bangkok and finishes at The Sofitel Central in Hua Hin on 17th-19th December and people using hotels in Hua Hin can watch all of the cars as they drive around the Thai coastal city. The tour through the city will include a drive over to Klaikangwon Palace, past the railway station and back to the hotel again.
On display will be such classics as the E-Type Jaguar, Mustangs, Mercedes, Fiats and Alfa Romeos as well as many other favourite models.

December 1 is a Wednesday. Did they also have it mid-week in the past, or on weekends? Seems they'll miss out on a large Thai crowd. Pete

They'd need to get it out of the way before the big mans birthday.

Yeah, that report came from some hotel booking site so the date may not be correct, naturally there is very little other marketing for these events so we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks Buksi - I'll check the rally out again. Went to it a few years ago - true, some very pretty cars. Unfortunately the Thai idea of restoration can include the wrong engines, non factory colours/wheel trims etc and fluffy steering wheel covers!
Certainly worth a look though.

This report has it from 17th to 19th December 2010. Another one has it 14th to 16th Dec!

Inclined to believe the Bangkok Post, as I cannot find it listed on the any of the Car Clubs sites.

HHAD's sister Thai forum is usually on the ball with these things:

That also claims that it will be on 17th-19th of December (which is still mid-week).

Contacted the Sofitel who furnished me with these (click to expand them):

For anyone who is into old cars, it's worth a look; I was there a couple of years ago and there were a couple of exotic old Mercedes sports cars and quite a few other cars that I was surprised to see in Thailand.
They're not all classics, but there's no entrance fee so it's worth a stroll around the Sofitel grounds anyway.

Did you find some Bundy, Buksi? Today is the 17th November, and I only know that because it was my burdday yesterday the 16th.

So it is in fact the Saturday (18th) when the action centres on the Sofitel, though why the need to plant 50 coconut trees on the beachfront is anyone's guess
