What's is going on tonight in Hua Hin
What's is going on tonight in Hua Hin
I have heard that today is a special day in Hua Hin (with parades, etc.). Can someone tell me what is going on and where it will all take place? Many thanks.

It's Loy Krathong night. Take a look at the below for an idea of what happens. Pete

We have celebrated Loy Krathong on Hua Hin beach, Takiab beach, at the Sofitel, in Pranburi on the Pranburi river (twice) and in a small town on the Mekong in Loei province of northern Issan and I must say, I like it better in the small Thai towns. My favorite one was the Issan one, followed by Pranburi (which is where we went last night). It should imo be celebrated on a river (or at least a lake). The two times we went to the beach the krathongs were immediately washed back by the waves. On a river, especially a big one with lots of towns and villages upstream it's absolutely beautiful to see the river full of krathongs and lanterns floating by for hours.
BTW, I woke up this morning to find one of those big burned out lanterns in my back yard!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

No floating lanterns at airports

Suvarnabhumi Airport called for communities surrounding the airport not to launch floating lanterns in deference to aviation safety, Airport Director Anirut Thanomkulbutra said on Sunday, which is Loy Krathong day.
Flying Officer Anirut asked for cooperation from Bangkok and Samut Prakan authorities to inform local Loy Krathong celebrants around the country’s main international airport not to set adrift the airborne floating lanterns and fireworks near the air traffic control compound, aiming to prevent possible aviation accidents and air traffic disruption from the floating objects.
Chiang Mai International Airport Director Raweewan Nettrakavessana said she is concerned that Lanna-style floating lanterns may pass into the airport zone, particularly on runways.
Ms Raweewan said that 30 Yi-Peng floating lanterns including three huge lanterns fell in the airport compound last night, the first day of the Chiang Mai Loy Krathong festival.
However, no air traffic disruptions due to the Yi-Peng floating lanterns have been reported so far, she said.
Meanwhile, Mr Yutasak Romchatthong, a director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Fire and Rescue Department, ordered 1,500 city officials to be deployed overnight at 132 piers across Bangkok to ensure public safety along the Chao Phraya River.

I have often wondered where they end up, and just how many are the cause of accidents and fires. There were literally thousands of them in the air over Bangkok Last night.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Are there any photos of this year's festival? It's always nice to see photos of the ladies dressed in their finest for the occassion.
