LIVE Music bars/venues

Post by lilmolfie »

Just looking for a list of bars and/or venues that host LIVE music such as bands/jamming sessions and days they're on. Had a little snout on here but couldn't find much (but it is late and my eyes are heavy so may of missed it).Really prefer live music as opposed to the generic dance music you find in many of the bars around BB :neener:

Cheers

El Murphy's is great for the Stonehead Band. I make a point of going to see them on each visit to Hua Hin. People were actually dancing on the tables the last time I went - great atmosphere and great sounds.

[edit] I'll upload a couple of videos for you.

Ta very much. El Murpheys' keeps cropping up so I gave it a looky lastnight but nothing was on. Thinking about it I probably should of asked when they were next having live music! Someone mentioned something about jammin' sessions somewhere but I can't for the life of me remember who or where.....

Not overly keen on the cabaret style bands either. That said, I really like the 3piece over in the corner at Angel Eye.

I need something a bit more..... rockier \m/ \m/

I've got 6 videos that I'm in the process of uploading for you. They were taken on a cheap compact camera, so the colour, lighting etc is not the best. There was also copious amounts of beer consumed, so shakey hand syndrome does take over. I can only apologise for the quality. However, I hope it gives you a feel for the enthusiasm and professionalism of these lads.

Here are the first 3:

Those guys can really play their instruments - the videos don't really do them justice. You need to get along and see them for yourself - the best I've seen in Thailand.

They take requests, and have a huge repertoire. If they don't know the song, they'll tell you so, and try to play something by the same artist.

When I was last over, the Mai Thai bar in the street regularly had music on in during the afternoons and evenings. Must admit did not see many other bars that had live music, but lots have sound systems with music playing most of the time.

Another good place is Souay Vista up soi 94. (Keep going over the railway line and then across the junction). They have nice live music, and rocky / blues etc. Worth the trek over imo.

There was another thread with a Norwegian (I think) live band in Chaam, never been, but got good reviews on the thread, probably depends if you like Norwegian rock?

When I was in HH last week, there was a really nice band playing at the Hog's Breath on Poonsuk Road every night. They played both Western and Thai music. Interesting for a tiny bar like this to have a band that fills almost a third of the space so some people were sitting/standing in front of the bar. One night there was a farang girl singing, even in Thai, very interesting.

In my view the best live band I have seen in HH is the one that plays in the discotheque next to the Hilton (some people just call it Hilton, but I think it's called Hua Hin Brewing Company and calling it Hilton can be confusing as I have heared there is another band playing inside the actual Hilton as well - which I haven't seen and not the one I refer to). They are really good musicians and play very professionally. And what is most important: Rather than old songs that one has heared a million times since decades, they play current pop songs that you can hear on the radio today. It seems as soon as a good song is in the charts, they play it and they play it really well!

This is one of the many things I like in Thailand: Bands are not shy to cover topical pop songs from the charts and they play them damed well, close to the original, but really with a lot of power and energy that makes you dance. I have seen bands like this in Bangkok as well, same formula and really successful.

Unfortunately, the drink prices in that place are quite steep.

The above reminds me of a good point. Bar owners get huge fines and their music confiscated for copyright infringement by the MIB for playing it in public at their bars. I wonder if any of these groups have ever been arrested for the same thing. What they're doing is exactly the same as what the bar owners are doing. Pete
