i don't know if you saw or followed any of the scandal surrounding fifa, but it's just so blatantly, embarassingly corrupt
we had no chance of winning the bid after the exposure of some of their officials but i still believe it was & is the right way to go, no sour grapes involved

for anyone interested, well worth a watch or read is the spanish rep's grovelling effort at swaying the vote , you may require a sick bucket to hand

I have a feeling they'll put on a better show, no alcohol, sharia law, 40 degrees heat, what's not to love?

They're building 20+ stadiums and tearing them down and sending the materials to third world countries don't you know.

Nice to see that the Euro contingent and the other "tossers" on the executive of FIFA are following in the footsteps of Juan Antonio Summerlunch (UN) and other great LEADERS in a rush to their 1st class seats back to their homes. Was it a coincidence that Sepp Fatter held the extended lunch meeting in Switzerland. I hope their was time for them to check out their Swiss accounts ha, ha.

Qatar World Cup 2022 could be played in JANUARY!

FIFA IS set for a head-on confrontation with Europe's big clubs as it emerged the 2022 World Cup could be played in JANUARY.

With the Qatari summer guaranteeing temperatures of 50 degrees plus in the desert, proposals are already being floated that could see the tournament moved to the winter.

While Qatar has promised 12 spectacular and air-conditioned stadia will be built, at a cost of billions, for the first World Cup in the Middle East, the problems of training facilities has brought up the prospect of a date switch.

FIFA's own technical report cited the potential danger to players if they tried to perform under the searing desert sun.

With a 32-team tournament, the idea of the competing nations merely utilising the stadium facilities is impossible for scheduling reasons, with up to four matches being played each day and conflicting demands for the best training time slots.

But in January, temperatures "dip" to a more modest average high of 22 degrees Celsius, dropping to 12 or 13 degrees C at night, with even the prospect of some modest rainfall, which would allow training to take place outdoors.

A FIFA source said: "We have always held our tournaments in the summer months before but we must think about what is best for the players."

And a move to a winter tournament in 2022 risks all-out war from the big clubs.

While Germany does have a long winter break, the rests in Spain and Italy are much shorter, while of course the Premier League plays throughout the whole winter.

Major leagues will be outraged at being disrupted for the World Cup, especially as FIFA would be likely to impose a minimum two-week preparation period for national sides ahead of the tournament.

That could lead to huge uproar and indignation, matching that as the awards of the 2018 World Cup to Russia and the subsequent tournament to the 113th-ranked nation in world football, half the size of Wales and which has never qualified for the Finals.

Personally I feel the entire thing is turning into a joke. We saw some of the mess and attitudes in SA. You want to get FIFA back on track and all new management, boycott the damn thing en masse. If the majority of the qualifying clubs do that, it will be a whole new, good beginning for football. Pete

It's turning into an absolute farce.

Boycott is not the answer. We'll end up with segregated competitions. It'll be like boxing with teams being able to choose which World Cup they want to play in. We could end up with numerous World Champions at the same time ( maybe England would have a better chance of winning something ).

The only way forward IMHO is to ride out the problems of the next 12 years, but sorting out the corruption in the meantime. Somebody needs to review the entire piece in that period to ensure there is no re-occurrence.

I liken this to the Euro-vision Song Contest. In its early days all countries had an even chance. They then added all of the countries who emerged after the fall of the iron curtain. Voting nowadays has very little to do with the song - it is politically driven.

Did we always have 24 Global FIFA delegates making these decisions, or is this a recent PC move? Yes, some of these 3rd World countries are becoming a World force, but they are not developing in their own countries. They mainly play in European leagues. Putting the World Cup finals into these countries is always going to be a big risk (no stadiums, mainly armchair supporters, no understanding of football crowds etc).

Personally, I'll be watching it on TV anyway, so does it really matter?
