Willy's Restaurant

Post by Norseman »

Just to inform you that the former owner of Willy's restaurant in Poonsuk Road, (the Swiss restaurant just opposite Hua Hin Temple), is no longer with us.
Willy died because of cancer a few days ago.
A ceremony was held in the temple today and a few people showed up to pay their last respect to this long time Hua Hin expat.

Rest in peace Willy.

That is sad news indeed - Willy must have been among the first farang to open a restaurant in town - a very good one too! And a charming man. RIP Willy.

RIP Willy. I will never forget the fun filled nights when Willy was in the Amsterdam Bar, the business I had in Hua Hin from 1994 till 1999.

Rest In Peace, Willy. Heard the news on Saturday from a friend in Belgium but I haven't been near the net since Friday so I'm only able to express my condolences now.

Willy wrote history in Hua Hin. If I am correct, his first business was the Zuri Bar at Naresdamri Road, occupying a small space roughly where Maitai beergarden is now. Later he moved to what was later to become Bei Otto, after that Sunhine, also at Naresdamri Road. Then he started what is now maybe still called Heidi's Beergarden (Biergarten?), after which he moved to Willy's Station which I think still exists now.
I might have missed a few. When I first started coming to Hua Hin, in 1993 when I was living in Bangkok, Willy was already around for a number of years. I still remember him telling me about his beginning years, late eighties, when his place was the only farang run bar, except for the Crocodile Bar run by German Frank. Willy's golden years, and I am quoting him from memory: "Oh yes, and they all came to me, they had to come to me because I was the only one".

Yes Keestha - Heidis' and Willys Station are still there, though who knows what will happen to Willys Station now - end of an era.

It's a new Swiss owner of Willys Restaurant now.
I believe he took over the place many months ago.
He wanted to continue with the famous name though, but as you say - end of an era.

Thanks Norseman - the place looks no different and it's good to hear that it will be carried on as you say.
