Darts and Snooker

Post by Darth Babaganoosh »

Couple questions:

1- I see talk of pool halls and pool leagues, but are there any snooker tables about?
2- Any place in town where I can play a game of darts? With a real board, not an electronic game with the plastic-tipped darts.
3- Any place in town that sells dart gaming supplies? I'm looking specifically for a board, maybe a new set of darts, too. Can't find ANY in Korea (all dart board in Korea are of the electronic kind, bleh)

Hi Darth - trot along to Dicks Office on Friday (Soi 80) about 8 where you should find some fellow darters having a non league 'Mickey Mouse' darts night. The regulars there will explain the formal League arrangements, and you can buy flights and stems there.
Hopefully if the guy who runs the league sees this he will contact you as well.
For dart boards there is a supplier in town who advertises in one of the local rags.

For snooker - not sure if the place I knew is still there. There is more than one snooker hall - Thais are obviously keen on the game, but the tables are too big for the regular bars to bother with.
The place I remember was above some shops on Dechanuchit Rd between Petkasem and Poolsuk.
There was another on Chomsin Rd - going East off Petkasem a few yards along on the left - behind the buildings facing the road. It may not be there anymore as there is some demolition going on in the area but worth a look see.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Go West, out of town on the Pa La U Road (Towards my place )

On the right hand side, as the road narrows, before you ascend the hill there is a snooker hall. Never been in there but it's size suggests at least a dozen tables :thumb:

You can also buy professional quality darts and flights at Bobby's bar on Soi 102. Not sure if he stocks a bunch though or if he just order's them for you from Bangkok. Maybe finding the answer to that question will give me an excuse to go there for a pre-Christmas beer today!

I'll report back later if I can still type... :D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

There are local leagues for both Darts and Pool. Johnnie Walkers Bar had a couple of Darts teams last time I was there. Good venue to play and good facilities. Think they have pool as well.

There used to be a good snooker hall in front of the Grand Hotel as well. Both Hua Hin and Cha Am are darts country so it should be easy enough to have a game or two. Even easier for pool but it might be more difficult to find a snooker partner. If you visit Bangkok, the main darts area is Sukhumvit Soi 22. You'll find a player to play with you almost every night there.

Snooker tables also to be found in a hall with entrance between 7/11 and Mini Farm restuarant / market on the right hand spur of Soi 88, inland side of the railway crossing. I counted 10, 2 of which seemed to be in a significantly better condition than the others.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

Yes. For me that was the better of the places as always quiet whereas others can be quite noisy from the guys placing small bets.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

I'll be walking around tomorrow for a little retail therapy (blowing off the anger I still have at the BS I went through in Beijing on Christmas...), so I'll stop by 102, 88 and either Johnny Walkers or Grand. I seriously need to chillax.
