Major!
You sound like a decent sort of chap, so you have 553 days to come to your senses!
Is your wife Thai? I can think of no other reason for her insistence - the house would have to be in HER name as foreigners cannot own property, except through forming a company, which is easier to do than undo!
I would recommend spending a year here before committing your life's hard earned savings to something you could spend the rest of your life regretting. You could save in the long run.
Meanwhile, how about getting a German international rugby team together to play against England. We might just beat you at something at last (been a long time since '66). For a season or two, anyway!
Heed the advice from this forum, Moriarty.

I'm new to, but a very warm welcome to you !

Seems Layman gave you some very good advise: rent before buying.... The best investment you can do, imagine buying and having to sell because your dreams don't come true in HH. I was planning to buy in Bali, spent some time there and.... changed my mind (to far and bad connection with Europe: no direct flights to Belgium)

But in the end it's up to you,

Hope you take a good descision.

MB,
Your humour seems more anglo than Saxon! Clearly you have associated a lot with ze Englishers and their migrating tribes.

Good to see that you are seeking advice first to avoid being called Major Cockup!

Dear Acadian450,

I had not visited the forum for some time, but was planning to do so soon, when I was notified of a message this morning.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover several new replies to my old post.

So is this argument about whether you will go to Thailand or about Hua Hin in particular?

Actually so far my wife and I do not disagree at all.
But we appreciate the forum's advice to rent before buying a house.
But we would so love to settle for good straight away without having to move house again.

Anyway thanks for your post!
Always appreciating messages.
Give my love to your wife.

Kind regards,
Mike

Dear "Khundon1975", :)

thanks for your unexpected message.

If 1975 is the year of your birth, you are unusually young for a Goon fan.

I had just begun to learn English, when I started to listen to BFN/BFBS in Cologne and their BBC broadcasts of staple English comedy such as "I'm sorry, I'll read that again", "Round the Horne", "The Navy Lark" etc. and foremost "The GOONS".
That was in 1963 at the age of 13.
When I had to move from my hometown Krefeld to southwest Germany in 1979, it all but broke my heart, because I could no longer receive BFBS.
Luckily I have been able to receive British tv (BBC & ITV) via satellite for a couple of years now. That way I have been able to catch up on British tv comedy series that never made it onto German tv screens. :D Most of the typical British linguistic humour, such as puns, gets lost in translation anyway.

Are you a Hua Hin resident?

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi "dude", :)

I suppose I must apologise for my prolonged absence from the Forum.
I have been rather busy on Facebook lately.
I promise to post more regularly from now.

My wife and I are doing fine.

I have joined ebay as a seller and hope to sell some of my winter clothes, cds, some books (very few!lol) and stuff.

Hope you are ok, too.

Kind regards,

Mike

Dear Moriarty, :)

thanks for the compliment.

My wife and I still have one year to make up our minds.
Your advice is most welcome. And even though we would
love to settle for good straight away without having to move
house once more, we keep our minds open for second thoughts.
If we should find an affordable, attractive house in a good
neighbourhood we might be tempted to "buy"/lease.
By the way my wife is from the Philippines, German citizen.

As for the German rugby team - I must disappoint you. :(
I used to be an American Football fan.
Unfortunately I discovered the great game of rugby too late in my life.
It used to be totally ignored by the German media until the
advent of private cable & satellite tv.
One of the private sports channels started covering the Rugby
World Cup in the early nineties, and I have been a fan ever since.
Also I would be in danger of being lynched by my own team for
keeping on collapsing the scrum on account of being a hooker with
only one leg!

Have a nice week, month & year!

Dear "Siani". :)

many thanks for your kind welcome. :D

Actually the count is well into the 400's now.
I shall quote it some time this week.
Not sure what it is right now.

Have a nice day, month & year!

Greeting,
Hi Marino01,

thanks for your kind welcome.

Yes, I appreciate the advice and have plenty of time to
have second thoughts.
But I do not intend to return to Europe.
I consider moving to Thailand like a much desired voluntary
posting to some colonial outpost. There is no going back!

To be frank - I'd rather die of a cobra bite or be killed by burglars in Hua Hin
than spend one day in some German old age pensioners' home with people with whom I have nothing in common but my mother tongue.
Also I could not bring my large private library which it has taken me a lifetime to accumulate.

Looking forward to future posts.

Have a nice day, month & year!

Dear "Jimbob", :)

many thanks for your kind "Willkommen!" :D

I must admit I have always been infamous on account
of my sympathies for the Brits and their associated tribes.
BUT this does not mean that I try to deny my origins & my
mother tongue. Although one of my former classmates, I believe,
to this day suspects me of being a traitor and a British spy.

Looking forward to future posts & messages.

Have a nice day, month & year.
