Went this morning at 11:40 to make my one year extension..out before 12:00 a really pleasant experience LOL went to bank first for letter as per Jomtien routine (200 baht for it) not needed as letter from Embassy enough

Family members of mine are going to Hua Hin for 6 weeks (Aussies) and will obviously need a visa extension.
If someone could advise what is needed to take when going to the Hua Hin immigration it would be greatly appreciated.

I may be wrong here, but I would have though they'd be better off getting a tourist visa from an Oz consulate before hand.

What visa do they have? A tourist visa is good for 90 days, but you only get 60 days on entry, but that will cover the 6 weeks. It can be extended for the remaining 30 days at a cost of 1900 Baht.

Yes, a Tourist Visa is the answer. They won't have to extend at all if only here for 6 weeks.

I was under the impression at BKK airport they give you a 30day tourist visa on arrival, hence the question on extension in Hua Hin for a 6 week stay.
Its only for my mother and child as obviously her indoors has a Thai passport.

A lot of people are under the impression that you get a tourist visa on arrival. This is incorrect. Immigration allows members or certain countries to visit Thailand for 30 days without a Visa.

Visa Exemption Rule
Please note that the Visa Exemption Rule applies only to persons wishing to enter Thailand for tourism purposes.
With effect from 06 December 2008 any person eligible to enter Thailand under the “Visa Exemption Rule” will be granted a maximum stay of 30 days only if entering Thailand via an international airport. Persons entering Thailand through a land border checkpoint from a neighboring country will be granted a maximum stay of just 15 days.

So if arriving on the 30day without visa (such as normal holidaymakers) is it possible to stay longer in Thailand by going to Immigration in Hua Hin?

I think you would have to do a border run as you don't have an actual visa. lomuamart will put us right.

TimandT is correct. You'll have to do a border run before the first 30 days expires to get extra time. NOTE, that border runs through a land or sea crossing will only give you 15 days now. You only get 30 days at the airport if arriving without a visa.
So, you'll need to plan your runs carefully. I'd go on the last day of your 30, get another 15 days and then do again before that 15 expires. I reckon you'll still be short of the full 60 days though as you'll lose a day each time you do a run. However, it will probably be possible to go to Imm and get a 7 day extension if you take your confirmed flight ticket out of Thailand. Cost 1,900 THB.
The Tourist Visas are the easiest option if you have the time to get them.
