Pensions for all Thais in LOS

Post by Spitfire »

To be honest, I had no idea that this was the case, but it seems that the average Thai, no matter of anything, is actually entitled to a pension when they reach 60.

OK, of course, it's small, but imo it's amazing that they get anything. I found out when my father-in-law casually mentioned that he was entitled to 500 baht a month, I think was the amount.

I'm not sure if it's a blanket amount for all or if it varies upon some variable or other.

Looked into it and it seems that it was passed in late 2009 or something by the current PM. :o

Well, learn something all the time here, for sure. Good for them!

I mentioned this to Mrs BB, saying that she'll be receiving money when she reaches 60. She simply replied, "Yes, I get 500 Baht each month."

Great news! I will tell my GF that we will deduct this from the money she needs to send to her parents starting now.
Tomorrow i will report if we are still together.

Bit OTT there spitfire! My wifes ma now gets this, but as a disability pension (sight), as does her grandma, as you know in the village, that's quite a help when they can live ok on 3000 baht a month and well on 5000.

I recall these payments going on back when Thaksin was here. I believe he started it, but open for correction? Pete
