Where not to rent a house

I am moving to HH in a couple of months and will be looking to rent a house long term so i would like to know of ant areas in and around HH to stay clear of ie flooding, building site noise, streets full of dogs, screaming kids at school etc

Amen to that. Noise is a must have anywhere in Thailand.

Dogs are everywhere, but they are usually quiet after one a.m.

Screaming children? Well, that's one thing that hasn't bothered us too much......although we have a couple of young ones in the pool occasionally that are pretty high pitched. Normally Thai children are a delight to watch and listen to. As opposed to the constant bombardment of noise from the BEACH GARDEN F*&(*&NG HOTEL!!!!!!

Oh....sorry, got a little off track there, where was I ? Oh yeah, noise. Thais love noise. Better get used to it.

Flooding in the Hua Hin area isn't nearly as much of a problem as most of the rest of the country. We have less rain than most places in Thailand and consequently only occasional street flooding. I haven't heard of anything like houses flooding.

One thing you must keep in mind is related to the above. Certain areas in Hua Hin, mostly centered in the south of town I believe, are subject to water shortages in the dry parts of the year. I won't get specific but you should actually view that as one of your main areas of concern. Talk to your potential neighbors and people you can trust to give you an honest answer. If you choose the wrong neighborhood you can look forward to having water trucked in and it's a real pain.

Construction noise isn't something you could control no matter where you live. Hua Hin is in a real growth spurt and there is construction everywhere!! We counted the numbers of new buildings on the way to the market today and gave up in about three blocks....too much to even believe. That's a good thing though so don't let it put you off.

Some areas of Takiap are peaceful in the daytime to live/stay..but at night, when the trains are going
Southbound please bear in mind there are many small rail-crossings and the trains may be blowing their horns
constantly thru' there.
Check the Soi you wish to stay in for dogs..(again..at night) once 1 starts barking they'll all join in!!
(them yappy little Stitzu-things are the worst 'cos many houses have 2 or 3 of them..Aarrgghh!!)

Thankx for info so far,another question ,which would be the prefered area to live Pran Buri or Cha Am, im not to bothered about lots of bars as long as there a couple near by, ( got a wife )

IMO Cha Am has some good house rental deals..way cheaper than HH.
But Pranburi has the big Tesco-Lotus in it's favour..(& Phu-Noi beach not far away).

Sorry to have to disagree with TIGR about flooding - houses in Soi 102 were flooded last year about late September time.
Apart from that agreed - it's rare. Unlike dogs, kids, and noise in general. It's pretty much a Catch 22 situation though. Too far out in the sticks and you need transport (and still get dogs.) Too close to town and you get motorbikes and the 6 am loudspeaker enhanced music etc. Anywhere close to a temple you get the crack of dawn chanting. Everywhere you get the cockerels crowing (even in the town centre.) Add to that the karaokes, singing bars, annual markets and fairs, and ad hoc street wide movie screens - not to mention the weddings and funeral rites outside homes - expecting peace in Thailand is a bit like p...ng in the wind!
But it's fun.

Nice little single storey house for rent in the next street to us..very quiet, & close to town.

If you think of renting in soi 102 Pongnalet. Please consider buying a dinghy too !
This little villiage floods every year especially in the lower end (where there are always properties for rent for some reason).
We stayed there whilst our house was being built and was lucky enough to be out of there before the rainy season started.
But once it started we were back there to help out some of the people we met with food and stuff.

I had a ride about on friday and looked at soi 102 and was told by a local thai resident not to rent a house in certain areas there due to the flooding , i think she was refering to the lower houses because there were a few for rent and others being made flood safe !! I will be back next month and stay for a couple of nights and try to find the SAM OR PRONG area, is this area flood free ??

samorpong does not get flooded and there are plenty of houses to rent ,some bargains with pools ,to be had if you rent long term
