And the scrum half! It was no coincidence that we started to get some decent quick ball in the second half when Peel came on. Phillips fits the style that Gatland wants Wales to play but not the style that Wales need to play.

Never mind, there's always next year and, of course, two warm up games against England before the world cup!
Well, Phillips certainly sereves a purpose and is needed in the squad for a specific game plan. Admittedley the guy runs further than he passes, so quick service is not his strong point!!

I do think there's a bit too much finger pointing at Phillips though - yes, service was a lot quicker when Peel came on, but Wales had also finally realised that they needed to commit players to the ruck at that point also. The tactic of committing 2 or 3 players to the ruck is fine if you can keep control, but time after time, game after game Wales are being knocked back and conceeding the turnover...... mindblowing :banghead: :banghead:

The attacking ''tactics'' (used in the losest sence of the word) are clueless - I assume this is down to Howley? If so, time to go - great player in his day, but that doesn't make him a great coach. The windscreen wiper system - you know the one, left, right, left, right, left, right etc. is painful to watch when making zero ground forward.......

I could go on forever..... sorry

Let's see what happens later in the year....... I hope to God we haven't see the last of Edwards though - still haven't heard details on that issue :? :?

I think he's got off lightly. Most of the stick has been aimed at the fly half and centres. He's just not under pressure for his place. Against France, as you say, there were simply not enough numbers at the ruck and we got found out but we had slow ball all the way through the championship. The thing is it often wasn't slow because the ball was tied up but simply because it took an age to get the clearly presented ball away from the breakdown. I don't mean the famous Phillips step and pass either - it just seemed to take ages for him to actually pick the thing up! I think much of our lack of 'go forward' is to do with the lack of urgency at and service from the ruck but I agree that the general style of play is very predictable and needs a change.
