Re-entry stamp

Post by barrys »

Just wasted a 50+ km round trip to immigration to find it's closed today - public holiday!!

Can somebody give me an answer to the following problem please?

I have to go to Laos at short notice tomorrow, so I need a re-entry stamp.
Last time (over 1 year ago) I was told that it had to be issued by my local immigration office.
Does anyone know what the situation is now?
Is it possible I can get a re-entry stamp at Nong Khai immigration office early tomorrow morning before crossing to Laos?

May not be the answer you are looking for but I had the same problem recently.
The immigration in Chang Wattana Bangkok was open on a bank holiday and I obtained a re-entry permit there. I was concerned that this was not my local office but this was never questioned.

Thanks a lot, that's helpful.
Well, it shows it could be possible, I suppose :?
How recent was this?

Chang Wattana may be closed today. More than just a bank holiday this one. Although I've forgotten the name.

I've always wondered the same question. Quick reentry permit.

How about that immigration office at the Suvanabhumi Airport. Should be open even holidays.

There was a Thai Visa .com thread here

[ Edited: in reciprocation to their own policy we do not allow links to 'rival' forums ]

Good luck.

The airport is an idea as I believe they've started issuing re-entries there now - but I'm not 100% sure. Also not sure if they'll ask to see a flight ticket? Maybe someone who's been through that recently can advise?
I think you'll be on a wing and a prayer at Nong Khai. If you explain the circumstances and that you couldn't get one locally today because of the holiday, they may oblige. After all, it's a border point and if you're holidaying up there and fancy a trip to Laos they can hardly expect you to come all the way back to HH for a re-entry permit - can they?
The 90 day report I can understand. Hopefully, you'll have more luck with the re-entry.

Thanks for that Lomu, that's what I'm hoping for ......
I'm going to give it a try anyway.

Bangkok isn't an option for me because I have to be in Vientiane before midday tomorrow!!!!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. :D

Too late for Barrys, but Re-entry permits are obtainable at Suvanabhumi Airport according to their website

http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/deta ... 120_en.php

but I do believe that you have to have a boarding card with you too.

For info, Barry got his re-entry visa at Nong Khai yesterday. I'll leave him to pass on the details if he's allowed back into the country.
This is the way

I do not think that they are issuing them at the airport. That would be easy and convenient and so is not allowed.

Does anyone know what the exact situation is at Suvarnabhumi Airport regarding re-entry permits?

I've done a bit of internet digging and it appears that there is a re-entry desk at Swampy but reports say that it's not always manned and not 24 hour (6am to midnight maybe). Also no photo booth so you need to take one along with you.
I emphasise that the above is not personal experience and I'd strongly advise anyone to get the permit in HH.

I was with a freind who did not have a Re-Entry Permit (I did)...
At outgoing Immigration he asked a female Immigration Officer about the situation and she said follw me... and off he went and I continued thru to the other side and waited for him.
His account of what happened... He was taken to a small room where he completed the paperwork and submitted it. He said there was a stack of completed Permits about 6" hign on the desk. The officer asked him for Baht 1,200 fee. As he was leaving the room, he turned back and asked for money receipt. This was handed to him but he did not look at it until waiting in the departure lounge. Surprise! Surpries! The amount on the receipt wa Baht 1,000. Assuming that there was at least 100 completed forms on the desk... 100 x 200 = Baht 20,000... not bad for a day's work.
