Where Is There Justice In Thailand Another Tourist Bashed

Post by starcad »

My Friend who inadvertently parked his bike in front of a bar in Soi Binterbarn was bashed senseless by a group of Thais last week leaving him with Broken nose, Black eyes, cracked ribs, bumps & bruises all over. After spending over 10,000 baht on medical bills & even when getting CCTV footage showing CLEARLY who perpetrated the offense NOTHING is Done by the Police.. Same story again.. If it were a Thai Bashed by Foreigners they would be in the Monkey House & or paying a high price to the Thais. Is it any wonder people are avoiding Thailand when this sort of thing is consistently occurring. Just remember YOU WILL NEVER GET JUSTICE here unless you are Thai... Dont even bother to try because you will only get more grief & pain.

That's bad news. Did he argue that he was not gonna move his bike?

It looks like the Thai just walked up and laid into him. Then others followed. There must have been some provocation. Perhaps he was too slow in moving the bike. Or as Jimmy says, he was complaining. You know how this works... 'Yeah..yeah...ok. I'll move the ***king thing'. It doesn't take much if someone has drink inside them. Just a raised eyebrow.

In the UK, this is all too common. Go to any town or city on a Saturday night.

Poor guy. You have no chance really.

How about the Tourist Police? Are they no better?

Apparently there was a verbal exchange similar to what you said, but I`m sure as hell that he didnt deserve this treatment.

I think the questions that should be asked and answered are:

What would happen if this happened in "Your" Country?

Who would search for CCTV footage & investigate the offense, You or the authorities?

Would the perpetrators already have been arrested?

Would the Media report this event (in your country)?
(in my Country) If CCTV footage like this came to light there would be an outrage in the press & in society & those responsible for the attack & for the authorities inaction would be punished.

I`m not knocking Thailand, I choose to live here and I love having the opportunity to be a "Guest": in this "mainly Beautiful country", but I think as long as there is such clear bias against Foreigners by authorities it can never prosper & shows also how Dangerous it can be.

I don't know if this is the same incident but I read the following on another forum...
Did anyone witness the incident outside the 7/11 on Binta a coupla nights back..??
One of the Harley riders was doing the usual 'park where I want..wot ya gonna do about it? stunt'..once parked his big bike was clearly in the way of anyone with 4 wheels trying to pass by.
A pick-up came and a lady got out and asked politely if the said bike could be moved..??
A hail of bad-ass abuse came from the biker, and he kicked over some of the small Hondas next to his bike!

Well..THATS when it all started...
A lady selling clothes from her barrow rammed his big bike with her barrow!
A BG came out from the bar opposite and just about kicked the living whatever out of him!
Her mates came out of the bars then and tables and chairs were broken over him!
HE tried to flee, but out of nowhere came a guy who did Muay-Thai and kicked his legs from under him and the girls pounced for another session!!

What can one say about this??
Classic tale of come-uppence?
Sisters taking care of themselves?
It sounds like it could be the same incident, and if it is he deserved what he got in my opinion.

Why didn't you just say 'No. It wasn't the same incident', instead of trying to provoke others, who are only trying to understand what happened.' Your reaction suggests you only want to receive sympathy and because you aren't getting it, 100%, you are annoyed.

I've lived here long enough to know that in every similar instance, I've ever heard of, there has ALWAYS been some provocation. Your friend, if he has lived here long enough, should KNOW not to cause ANY Thai to lose 'face'. They can react violently and they almost always attack en masse.

You've already said...
Apparently there was a verbal exchange similar to what you said...
As painful as it may be to acknowledge it, that's the crux of the matter. He brought it on himself.

I agree with your sentiments but you aren't back home. Your laws don't apply here. BECAUSE of that, you have to take extra care and be street-wise. I sincerely hope he recovers and is a little wiser next time.

+ 1. Not only do your back home laws not apply here, your culture doesn't either.

Once read advice on how to lessen your changes of serious and/or expensive injuries when you find yourself on the ground at the center of a sh*t kicking:
- Protect your kidneys: roll onto your back
- Protect your nads: knees up, draw ankles to torso and cross them
- Protect your head and face: tuck your chin, clasp hands behind head, pull your elbows together.
- Be a moving target: rock and roll around on your back
- The last one was aimed at American culture, don't know if it works here: Make sounds to exaggerate how much it hurts.

Makes sense, but who knows if it works.

Why should these questions be asked exactly? Thailand is what it is, we are aware of it's 'warts', and have to live with it. We're all too happy for the police not to enforce the law, when we our our friends digress.

And he must have said something, I know I certainly wouldn't, just bite your tongue, particularly in a bar area due to the nature of those there. Talking about our countries, if this was outside a bar near a football ground and a foreign chap said something to 'some' football fans, he could have ended up far worse off.

Looks like I`l have to post the Whole CCTV video and you can judge for yourselves...
Why have you left the build-up off?

Sorry to hear about your mate though, hope he's alright and that, assuming he didn't do too much to deserve it. I'd treat it as a lesson learnt, which may help avoid something worse if there's a next time.

The "Build up" was left out because its basically 5 minutes of nothing.. The only thing that happens is the Bar Girl in Red is seen Pushing another Bar Girl in an Unrelated event.

I have to say that the CCTV footage is far from clear to me. All I can say for sure is that at one point something got hit by a bar girl with one of those small plastic stools.

A Thai bloke in a black t-shirt walks down from the top of the screen, ie: Hilton end towards 7-11, then walks side on to the farang sitting on the bike and clumps him unseen by the farang, very cowardly like. As are all those jumping in instead of leaving him to have a fair fight with the Thai. The Thai seemed to hit him twice but the man still forced the Thai onto his backfoot :D

Was the farang further up the road earlier when the real 'start' of the incident took place? The Thai man must have walked down from another spot to him for 'some' reason. Did a girl walk down and call him up? The Thai bloke wasn't standing in one of the bars directly accross.

So we have two versions, one from the O/P who provides some (poor) CCTV and knows the victim, but doesn't say if he was present himeslf?

And someone entering the fray with info from another forum, which doesn't say whether the incident was witnessed or just hearsay, but asks if anyone witnessed the incident, which suggests they didn't?

So no-one knows what really happened then?

Been there. seen the movie.

Used to help run a bar and saw many run ins. Can't tell these dumb macho guys they do not stand a chance if they upset a Thai.

Some bikers are usually on a macho kick ( I used to be when I was 18). They are living in a dream world . Big chopper with a little willie. (mines grown by the way  )

Good to see the BG's get in there. When I had problems I just used to get the MB taxis on the corner to pitch up

Karate black belt or not you aint never going to win. Silly sods

'Any which way or loose' would solve it  clap
