As d-m has already said, I got my re-entry stamp at Nong Khai with no problem whatsoever - no ticking off that I didn't get it in HH or that I would have to get it in HH next time.

You can't get it at the border though - you have to go to the immigration office (about 1 km from the Friendship Bridge crossing).

The fee for the single-reentry stamp is 1000 baht.
