If you read my earlier post I transferred from lloyds like that.
I could ask my UK bank to transfer through a monthly standing order but prefer to watch the exchange rate and then instigate a transfer online to my UK bank when favourable. I have to do the online transfer during UK bank business hours

When I had a bank account in the UK, I was able to transfer funds from my account with HBOS to my Thai account online, as Richard says all they needed was the Swiftcode, and likewise, the transfers were pretty quick, sometimes even the same day.

I agree online transfers between account would be good, Ok if both banks are in the uk. But not to bamks in Thailand or Greece where I am at the moment.
I believe the problem is the UK uses sort codes and Thai and Greek banks use swift codes. I do my UK banking on line and have tried to do it not possible.
One of the other reasons may be money laudering it would make it simple.
Yes I take your point Lindo about Thai banks using Swift codes - and as I say I've never tried the online transfers to Thailand - but certainly with Lloyds online it is possible to pay a bill by entering the payees number. So wouldn't that work as well with paying to a Thai account?
With Lloyds online it involves going into a different function to the Transfers - worth a try maybe?

I received a letter two days ago from the Pension Service in the UK informing me that the method of payment of the state pension is to be changed. They are phasing out cheque payments and will start paying by money transfer to your bank account (including one in Thailand).

For those UK pensioners who have not received the letter, I suggest you contact the Pension Service:

E-mail: shsvcs.prsipccustomermailbox@dwp.gsi.uk/pensions
Tel: 66 1928 853365
Fax: 66 1928 853422

I have submitted my bank account details and have been informed the next payment will be made by bank transfer.

I would be grateful if you could advise what rate you get for the GBP/Baht conversion when the payment is made. I understand that The Pension Service, or at least their contracted bank, actually purchase the Baht in the UK, like my Civil Service Pension payers do, and whilst it is a better rate that you or I could get buying Baht in the UK, I still get a tad over one Baht in the Pound less than I would if I was able to transfer Stirling from the UK.

I suspect it will be easier and more beneficial than a cheque payment would be.

I will advise when received.

Certainly more convenient and the saving of Baht 300+ that I pay when depositing the cheque will compensate for any lower exchange rate. No more waiting for between 30 and 45 days for the cheque to clear!
