Getting visa transferred

Post by Takiap »

Hi guys

A short while back my passport was full so I applied for a new one, as as is the norm, I was given a temporary passport to use while I waited for the proper one to arrive. During that time I went to Penang and got a 1 year Non O visa (Thai wife). Today I went to HH immigration to get the visa transferred to my new passport, and was told it can't be done? Apparently they can only transfer stamps, and not an actual visa? I was told that I won't have any bother though when doing the 90 day runs, providing I carry both passports. Anyone have any info regarding the accuracy of all this?

Thanks in advance

This sounds like just some more of the local office BS.

I have been meaning to write about what I had to do with mine.

I got a new passport a few months ago, as the old one would have expired before my 1 year extension was up. Hua Hin charge 500 Baht, and have you fill in a fictitious form to transfer a visa to a new passport. They will also give you a fictitious receipt for the payment!

The stamp in the new passport is written in Thai, but it shows my old passport number, the type of visa (non 0), and the original date of issue and first entry. In addition there are separate stamps filled in to show the original date and place of entry, and yet another showing the details of the last extension.

There is some other relevant details that I may add later, but for anyone that goes to that office you will know which B---- that peers over the top of her glasses, and delights in lording it over Falangs.

So yes, they DO transfer visas, but in your case it may be some detail with your passport that they have not bothered to tell you, but just wait until you go in for the next whatever reason.

Hua Hin also told us there was no need to transfer - just to carry both passports which we did with no problem. At Bangkok airport (we decided not to risk a border crossing) we were just taken to one side and various notations were made in our new passports - no charge and with the minimum of fuss. When we re-entered we just handed over both passports and got the 90 stamp without any trouble.

Nereus has it pretty much spot on, did mine a year or two back after renewing my passport, HH will do it and they charge 500 baht - officially (in Bangkok) there is no charge for this service as you have already paid for the visa/extension.
