It's just a gate, mate...

If Thailand and Cambodia had a set-up like this, maybe they could work off all that excess aggression.

Since there is Ministry of Silly Walks, there, of course, must be a military equivalent. The Department of Strutting, Prancing About, Posturing and Nice Skirts.

It's a show, and both clips made me laugh, but I wonder what the military significance of these silly walks is. The Greek uniform is actually designed to make them look stupid with those clown shoes.

Maybe it's a bit Monty Pythonish, and they expect the enemy to laugh themselves to death.

It actually reminded me very much (the India/Pakistan clip) of some of the aggressive displays you see in the animal kingdom, particularly among very large or dangerous creatures. Lots of bluster and showboating designed to intimidate, but no contact in case any real damage is done. Hence my Thailand/Cambodia comment.

The Greek display is followed by a Punch and Judy show from the blue hut.

I could relate the prancing about to the animal world, but rather than aggression, I think it's more akin to a mating ritual.

The Greek disply is on three previous battles and the uniform I admit looks odd but is based on battle wins.
It is very difficult to do what they do marching on studded boots on a polished a surface.
Greece is a country very proud of its tradition, Greek dancing great fun but every dance has a meaning.
My Greek mate has a bar, I was in there one evening when some Greek soldiers came in wearing civvies. The started gdancing and this little 6 year old was watching them fascinated. What did the do stopped what they were doing and showed him how to do simple dances. Lovely lads wish the UK was more like that.
The family tradition is still strong I live in a small non tourist Greek village my neighbours are all old andd we help them and talk to them. They have an orange festival once a year, the first year we went we went to stalls to buy snacks and never got charged, when we asked why it was because we helped the gran or their anuty or cousin it was embarrassing.
It is all based on tradition and family values. They are lovely people.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Sandman
I agree it looks funny, but those blokes are big, believe me you would not laugh in front of them.
To make you smile more they are not tights they are a form of stocking. To upset the susprender fans they do not wear them.
There are a lot of uniforms around the world, the swiss guard and the beafeaters spring to mind.

aww come on....look what happened when we Brits sent a squad of our lads over to Greece on an exchange program

Swiss Guards may look a bit mad in those loud colours and slashed sleeves, but when Michaelangelo is your designer you get a by in my book....and they dont have girly pom poms on their boots and nancy mini skirts.

The last time the Greek army were scary was when they faced the Persians.

Proper Scary...Devils In Skirts aka Black Watch. Scared the hell out of the Afghans and that says it all. Also usually drunk and looking for a scrap. Makes Turks, Russians and cattle run for their lives.
myrmidon.jpg
Really Scary.... Greek Myrmidon... mad bad and very dangerous in a scrap, specially when youv'e just killed his cousin. Short sword may double up as a kebab knife, but by cracky can he use it!
Big Poof.jpg

Mwaaa ha ha ha ha......Ello Duckie!.... enemies die of a heart attack induced by laughing themselves to death. Only army in the world to make a nail file and buff puff part of their standard kit.

I kept noticing this header but only just got around to opening it. (I've been a bit busy)

:lach:

I actually watched the series the first Pakistan/India gate is from and enjoyed it, which is more than I can say for his Kumars comedy show.

Nice one.

Looking at the Greek vid, it seems that some bugger has nicked the gates from under the very noses of the guards and left a pile of bricks from what I take was the gate posts, on the ground.

I'll get me coat. :run:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
