This man lived in Asia for many years and kept returning.
He was a legend to many and certainly in his own mind with an inflated ego, an Eloquent speaker that once had a future president as an aide, They disliked intensely each other’s styles
A risk taker with other’s lives, with both brilliant and lousy ideas
In the end caused more damage than good in pursuing results
Seen as ruthless in putting down rebellions and civil unrest
Who was he and who was his aide?
General of the Army Douglas MacArthur
And his aid was Dwight D Eisenhower

It's the Mortella tower on Corsica, Mortella (Myrtle) Point. It so impressed Nelson that he took the idea (and a spelling change) back to Blighty, where the Martello tower was born to keep Napoleon out. I had no idea they were so widespread - there's even a couple in Florida!
