Another location not so far away where you can have a pleasant wander around outside is Mrigadayavan, the old palace on the way to Cha Am. It's a museum now but it has large, well kept gardens as well.
You get to it by turning into the second military base on the right heading towards Cha Am.
There is an entrance fee but I don't remember it being much.
Obviously with it being a palace, you're expected to behave yourself and I don't expect that they would like your kids to play football on the lawns or anything of that nature.
A very nice place indeed. I have a walk around these grounds fairly often. A WALK is all your allowed to do around these grounds so is unsuitable for children (bored after half an hour - I've tried a few times), and unsuitable for someone looking for excercise - which is understandable as I think the grounds are a fair few hundred years old.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!
