From what I've seen of the North - which admittedly isn't a lot - there does seem to be potential for a kind of Hadrians Wall situation in the LOS at some point. As hinted at above the army relies on it's connections - basically in Bangkok. For it to try to venture north would be interesting to say the least.
Looking back though it really isn't too many years since Royalty first ventured north. Was it Rama 5? Maybe 4 - I can't be arsed to check right now - but not long in the overall scheme of things.
Northern Thailand is in many ways a different country, with a different ethnicity to the Central and Southern regions, a different history, and one hell of a large and ancient city. For centuries it got on pretty well without a glimmer of interest or intervention from its' more southern neighbours. It could probably do so again.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Things have sped up as compared to reporting yesterday. Now they say with polls closing at 1500 hours, vote count should be completed by 1700-1800 hours, with announcements not long after that. Pete

At least if PT get a decent majority it will make it difficult, and potentially dangerous, to unseat them with all the usual silly courtroom stuff.

The people have spoken and it’s looking like a landslide for PT

There's prelim reports of 5 red cards, mainly in the northeast, but no indication yet of what parties involved. Pete

Yes Pete, it seems Thaksin is prime minister again. Where else in the world can a convicted criminal get elected, and they wonder why nobody takes them seriously. Well actually they don't think about such things because they're too concerned with Farang protesters. Anyone have the general's number?.....lol.

I think it was pretty obvious who would win. In fact, I would have bet my life on PT winning. They have the people behind them, because the people want God to return from exile. If you ask me, the only thing today represents is the official start of more trouble. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

New poll please

When will the fun; games and fireworks start?

My concern is I have 3 friends of my daughters wandering around Thailand and Plan to exit on the 9th

Is there some guru out there who can predict airport closures, riots, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions please?

I'm just an old dinosaur (so I've been told) and the last thing I need is 3 yapping farang girls on my doorstep :naughty:

HELP

What is interesting is that if there is any truth in the widely reported rumours of a deal between PT, the military and the 'invisible hands', it might actually stabilise things a bit.

There can be no denying that the ideas and policies that made Thai Rak Thai so electable are still very popular today.
