Beware is this a Nong Korn Burglar?
Beware is this a Nong Korn Burglar?
After having suffered a break in on Saturday and had the main electrical cable cut and stolen from the roof space. I have been on the prowl.
Found this enterprising young twat on my land burning insulation from cable.
I have passed the photos to the local Phu yai Baan and the police.
I had him followed and found he lives in a village near to the Tap Tai end of Soi 88.
I cannot prove that this is the same person or where he got the cable from.
But when challenged and threatened with the police he ran.
He is a well known local apparently who has been caught for burglary before and lives with two other unsavoury youths.

Well, he looks like a piece of garbage, 'The guilty runneth too quickly' to be poetic.
Should have asked to see his Thai ID card as well (or mentioned it to the cops), bet he hasn't got one, might not even be Thai and could well be on drugs.
These type you have to catch in the act and then end their pilfery there and then with a baseball bat or such like as the cops don't care one iota about walking crap like these types.
This type of fool rarely gets to grow old and have a happy ending.

Sooner or later, they will end up doing it to the wrong person in one way or another and get some serious upcommance/blowback.He is a well known local apparently who has been caught for burglary before and lives with two other unsavoury youths.

He doesn't look Thai to me at all. Resembles the late Richard Pryor a bit.

I think that you have mentioned that your power supply is underground Pete, so not so vulnerable.prcscct wrote:By the way.....how does one cut a main electrical cable without being blasted through the roof?Pete
Most of the electricity supplies in Thailand have the meter at some easily accessible place, usually on a convenient pole or wall. It is a very easy process to disconnect the supply at the meter using an insulated screwdriver, or even a pair of insulated wire cutters. Not only useful if the burglar wants to steal the cable, but also an easy way to kill security lights and some alarm systems and cameras, especially if it is a single phase supply.
In Oz the meter on domestic properties is usually in a "meter box" on the front wall of the house, and it is good practice to lock the box and have a shatter proof glass "window" in front of the meter itself so it can be read without opening the door.
I have seen metal meter boxes here, but getting one with a "window" in it might not be easy.
However, if you live in a vulnerable area it may be worth looking into. A nice little sideline business there for some enterprising young fellow.

Re: Beware is this a Nong Korn Burglar?
Just to add. The development has underground cables! The cables stolen were the 25mm feed from the point of entry into the roof to the consumer unit(around 4x 1.5m). First cut in the loft and then disconnected from the box.
Most homes with electricity meters outside have a metal box supplied by the electricity company ( with a window) The box is lockable but seldom have I seen one locked - Even on my house

Could you email me slightly larger pictures that I can print please? I believe I have seen these 3 lads with an older guy a bit more smartly dressed. Proper shifty little crew and were clearly casing out the area over the last week. There have been burglaries and the PYB for Nong Pran Puk is not happy. I live at the Tubtai end of soi 88. Very few incidents over the years I have been here but I have heard a few reports recently from this and surrounding areas.

Have just been told that our house has bit hit by the cable robber

Re: Beware is this a Nong Korn Burglar?
My soft heart is talking to me about all this. Look at the kid in the photo who apparently is one of the gang. Such a lot of hard and dangerous work for little return. If only he could be directed into honest work employing the same amount of effort, he would make a decent living. No good role model, no education, no nothing except a mentor who apparently is a crook himself. I guess the only good point is that he/they haven't advanced to purse snatching and muggings, yet. I wonder when the Puea Thai people have had their days in the sun if anything will be different? These class of people are their primary support base. Pete

prcscct:
The 'kid is in his twenties. He does not want to work - His effort for little reward as you put it is maybe 100 Baht per kg for burnt copper at least.Copper mains cable is heavy and easy to sell no questions asked. He has been caught before with mobile phones and other small items burgled.
There is no shortage of work but labouring for 300 baht per day would not suit.
Blame us(enjoying the fruits) or the government but having a low minimum wage will only create more thefts IMO.
Higher daily wage may not help either. The main problem is many uneducated labourers are not productive enough to justify higher salary. Thailand relies heavily in having a large workforce of trainable ( low level) low cost production workers. Increase in salary will demand increased production which will lead to unemployment.
And more burglars?

Re: Beware is this a Nong Korn Burglar?
My God the argument that higher wages will cause people to turn from crime is absurd. The reality is that there is always a rotten apple/egg/fish who does not want to turn an honest days crust and goes for the easy/soft option. My heart goes out to people like the itinerant labourer or garbo who do great work IMO for a bloody pittance and DO NOT resort to crime!
