I seem to be unable to send PMs today, although I have sent them successfully already. The messages are just sitting there - it just says "Outbox (2)". I have clicked Send (and not Save as Draft).
Why is this?
Why do sent PMs stay sitting in the Outbox, instead of Sent?

I think they stay in your Out Box until they've been opened by the receiver.
This is the way

That`s the way the software works, it`s always been like that. The message will sit there until the recipient opens it, then it will show in the "sent" box.thebears wrote:I seem to be unable to send PMs today, although I have sent them successfully already. Ah, I see, that's interesting. Thanks.Nereus wrote: That`s the way the software works, it`s always been like that. The message will sit there until the recipient opens it
I can understand the word "Outbox" being correct, in that context, but the word "Sent" is not therefore a correct description.
Never mind, it sounds like I'm complaining, and I'm not. Just making a pedantic observation

You need to change the sending options in your email accounts tools tab to send messages out immediately otherwise you have to hit send button manually. I am assuming you are using outlook but it you are using other email software the process is simulair.

This is not about e-mail - it's about the forum PM feature, but thanks anyway for the message.armycw4ret wrote:You need to change the sending options in your email accounts

And I think whilst a PM is still in the Outbox it can be edited before it is "sent"

Yes, that my experience, I don't know if there's a time limit but it doesn't seem to be the 1 hour same as posts for obvious reasons.TimandT wrote:And I think whilst a PM is still in the Outbox it can be edited before it is "sent"
Plus another thing to be aware of thebears, is that these people may not be intentionally ignoring your PM's even if they have been online and should have seen the 'new message', but just a bit lazy with their checking. I do this a lot one inbox got full before and just noticed now I have 2 I've should have read (sorry Lee ) this is nothing wrong with the system but my lack of use... but when your inbox reaches 50no. it becomes full and no new one's are automatically dropped in until you clear some, but you get notified on the forum main page. But cos I've left some old 'junk' PM's on there it's usually showing say 2 or 3 so sometimes I think the number's increased and there's a new one, so go to inbox and scroll down to 'bold' live one's and just see the headline of one I've already noticed and ignored, so think nothing 'new' here. But if I hadn't scrolled down so quick I'd have noticed the new one was dropped into list yet as it's telling me the box is full and I need to move some.
As I say, the system is spot on I'm just not using it properly

Maybe, not sure though, but I think it can also be deleted fully if still in the 'outbox' and it disappears from the other members 'inbox' should you think better of it and decide you shouldn't have sent it, ie if drunk/just make a mistake in your inferences/ill informed or decide you can't be arsed with it on reflection, for example. And I think whilst a PM is still in the Outbox it can be edited before it is "sent"......
Might need Admin or a moderator to confirm on that one though.

The message can be deleted, but the addressee still receives notification that a message was sent. This can be a little confusing at first, but you get used to it.
