Unconscious Golf

Post by JW »

Bob Rotella explains his advice to Darren Clarke, and I have to agree he talks complete sense. Have a listen to his interview on BBC below.

Spot on JW

I remember when I took up golf at 15 years old being told by my local club pro to ignore all the foot placement, swing details etc. To start with put the ball down, address it, run through your ming where the ball is going to go and then belt it. At first your success rate will be about 10% but you will learn how you have to tune your mind into playing that shot.

Once that is attained it is then time to determine techniques etc

Thanks LF

Got a spot of eyesight problems at the moment

Back to the thread though. When I was a member of the RHGC in Zimbabwe and had the pleasure of knowing and playing with Nicky Price, his advice was always 'forget about the last shot, forget what yesterdays golf lessons told you, forget about your next shot UNTIL you are over your ball for the next shot, then think about it, run it through your mind, select a club, address the ball and smack it' So on that basis if you are to shoot an 80 then your thought about your golf should only be 10 seconds times 80

Easier said than done

Unconscious Golf:

That's the way I frequently play the back nine...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
