Thai Army and a Democratic Society

Post by Lung Per »

Today's Bangkok Post has an article in which Suranand Vejjajiva discusses the role of the military in a democratic society.
For reasons of health and continued happiness this farang shall abstain from making any comments or expressing any opinion on Mr. Vejjajiva's article.

Yes, he raises some very good points, but it is not just the Army is it?
Third, the military should be compelled to strictly enforce its own rules and regulations. It is not a matter of there not being a code of conduct; the problem is in the enforcement of accountability in wrongdoing. The armed forces need to clean up their act.
Starting with politicians, the whole "system" in Thailand suffers from the same malady! :cuss:

Yeah, good report, and a heavy dose of the truth. Judging by the rants reported, they [Army officers] sure don't like any criticism and the press is becoming bolder and bolder by the day here. The goal really is to get them to accept civilian rule, as mentioned in the report, instead of being loftily aloof from the rest of the country with it's head acting like Ceasar that considers the government and the people as "The children" who don't know what's good for them.

This, however, I fear will be a long while off as it's a bitter one for them to swallow.

Like the picture in the BBK Post report of the general with the caption "Not amused" under it.....

They're not going to like this, unless it's already scripted as to result. Pete
