Either are fine if you require blindness within hours

I prefer Mekong, as it pours easily into the glass, whereas my Samsung will not fit. Camcorders are also difficult to get down in one. Sang Som, on the other hand pours into a glass perfectly and as Dr Dave suggests will blind you just as effectively as Mekong.

I think the ultimate drink for getting 'blind' drunk in Thailand just has to be the legendary 'See-Sip' lao khao. That stuff is evil and the Thais drink it like beer when they get up in the morning! For those who like to live dangerously (including lorry, taxi and bus drivers), it makes a great cocktail when mixed with M-Sport and yah bah!

Olmate, you just have to try See-Sip (means '40' referring to the strength of the drink i.e. 40 degrees) to realise how vile and potent it is!

well i'll have to delve deeper for alcoholic refreshment on my next visit and as for yaa bah it is another of those filthy methamphatamines reaking havoc amongst the youth of LOS. It makes me wonder if this contributes to the heavy road toll for people on 2 wheels there. And  to the mekong!!!!!!!!!

Sangsom for me every time, problem is, after a bottle or two I seem to wake up with extra tattoos! Sad but true, bloody stuff makes me do all sorts of strange things, still, I will keep persevering!

Thanks to Jaime for clarifying things. I have been wondering for ages why Chelsea have been advertising a cheap Thai Rum on the shirts this season.

As for Mekong I always carry a hlf bottle when out on my bike. It is guaranteed to get you to the next filling station if you run out of gas.

That other stuff that Jaime mentioned works a treat in Zippo lighters but makes the bike run a bit rough.

My father-in-law's home made rice whisky does the trick for me. Doesn't half give me the s**ts the next day though!

You are not wrong there Jaime, I’ve had to siphon Jet A-1 aviation fuel, and it tastes better than See-Sip!

Whatever happened to that "doyen" of all Thai drinks, Sangthip?
I still see it in the odd off-licence but believe it's not for sale.
