Football should have a 10 minute Sin Bin like Rugger

Having watched more Rugby Football than I have ever done before, I have come to the conclusion that Premier League Football would benefit hugely from a 10 minute sending off for a yellow card - i.e. a Sin Bin

Any views from other footy fans?

First they should introduce back ten for arguing with the ref ... that would sort some probs out I do agree though they should bring it in and the TMO too

I fully agree with the sin bin idea but would also introduce a 10 minute ban anytime a players needs attention on the pitch. If a player is seriously hurt he would either be substituted or be off for that amount of time. Watch the fake injuries reduce dramatically.

It's an interesting suggestion. I can't imagine it being very well received by the likes of Ferguson and Whinger.

Association football made a rod for its own back years ago by not clamping down on cheating and arguing with the referee. You only have to listen to the commentary to realise that cheating is an accepted part of the game now: "yeah well, there was some contact - I mean the boy's obviously not really hurt and he went dahn way too easy, but there was some contact, so you can't argue wiv the free kick..." Contact? WTF? It may not be rugby, but there is inevitably going to be some contact. And the refs fall for it so often.
Was it always like that? Obviously not, but I can't really think when it became endemic in the game.

You argue the toss with the ref in rugby, you get penalised, sometimes quite severely.
If you listen to the background feed, you can occasionally hear the players calling the ref "sir".
Regardless of that, there is never any doubt who is in charge. You can't imagine seeing a rugby player's face twisted in bitterness, hatred and anger shoved into the ref's face. He'd probably get a good smack, and then get sent off and banned for a month!

Sorry about the but I feel very strongly about this. Not alone, of course, especially among fans of both games. But I don't think the will exists to take on the prima donna Ronaldos et al.

I thought that the 'back ten' rule was already there - just that the refs seem never to use it!

When you see the 'violence' of Rugby, compared to that of Football, it makes you realise what a load of overpaid whimps some of the modern Premier League footballers are.
Yes - there are serious injuries, like that of Sagna yesterday getting a fracture, but some of the antics of a few of these players would soon be curbed with a 10 minute compulsory 'blood bin' or similar. The managers would soon have to deal with the issue.

I'm in broad agreement with all of the above, but I think the 10 mins off for an injury will be difficult to work, not least as the players union will waffle on about 'elf and safety'!

Also, some injuries do hurt and do need some assistance and should the player/club be penalised for that? Look at JT yesterday, now no-one can accuse him of ever feigning injury, if he stays down you know he's hurt and yesterday he took an accidental full blooded kick in the goolies, which even with the box protection, had him rolling around in pain. Now I'm not sure that anything other than the administration of cold water and time can heal that, though he got up smartish when Eva Carneiro, the female first team doctor came on to check all was well! But 10 minutes off the pitch as a consequence?

I have always argued for all of the above ideas (not that I actually give a toss about football).

Trouble is Football has too much money involved (at the top anyway) and the corruption runs deep.

With all the acting on the pitch an Equity card is required at the very least...
