A thread long forgotten by time. We played against the Swedes in our last home match of this tournament today. After the heavy defeat in June (0-5), it was a much better performance today in the rain soaked Olympic Stadium of Helsinki. We actually controlled the game and could have had a better result than losing 1-2. However we now have a totally new and young team so I can look forward for the 2014 World Cup qualifications where we will play two long time losers in Europe: Spain and France. Or should I stick to ice-hockey, where we are the current world champions?

Roooooooooooooonnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Yeah.

Tosser.

Welbeck, please kiss goodbye to Bent on his way out. At this level you cannot survive with a goalhanger, goal or not.

Please Walcott, leave Arsenal, we need the free spirit you were.

Jones v Cahill, bit silly really, one team top and the other bottom and all that lack of confidence wae evident tonight - albeit a great cross for that 2nd goal.

Barry? Parker? Hmmm. Jury's out.

Young, yes please. Downing, pass.

Gerrard, welcome back.

Capello? May you be the last foreign manager to steer our ship who has never managed in England. Yes please Jose.

Yes, that's the crucial phrase. No need to get too worked up about foreign managers per se.
But not Mr Effin' Wonderful, please!
I always liked Martin Jol - thought he had good attitude and good footballing style and nous. Got a raw deal from an impatient Spurs set-up. Hope he gets a good run at Fulham and does (quite) well. (i.e. Better than Chelsea, but not as well as Spurs...)

Didn't see the game last night. Rooney's always capable of being a twat. Look at his dad FFS. BaaBaa would probably crow, but that would leave him wide open to bent scouser jokes...

I know Montenegro have a had a good run, and I saw them playing okay in England - but surely we should be more than capable of seeing off teams like this if we want to be taken seriously as potential champions of anything other than the British Isles? And even there I use the word 'potential'.
This is the way

Scotland have kept their Euro 2012 dreams alive after winning a tricky clash in Liechtenstein.

This is probably because the manager is not English. So if there is no success next summer, you can blame Capello. Ehh?

Does this apply to his Premier League matches as well? Pete

We`re getting our excuses in early. But seriously, do other countries` fate depend on one player alone? We`ve heard it all before, our chances are slim because (enter name of choice, Beckham, Gasgoine, Keegan) may be injured for the finals.

With or without Rooney, our chances have always been slim anyway. We'll get a couple of draws and a win in the group stage, scrape through to the knockout stage and then get walloped by whoever and then home. It's been this way for the last decade or 2.

No need for excuses. If we're crap, we won't need him. If the team's up to it (it happened once), then he'll be waiting in the wings as our secret weapon - providing he can stay on the pitch.
