But seriously, do other countries` fate depend on one player alone? We`ve heard it all before, our chances are slim because (enter name of choice, Beckham, Gasgoine, Keegan) may be injured for the finals.

He's still a player you'd want in your team, though he is a liability at times.

Unlike a number of PL refs, continental ones aren't intimidated by him & he certainly won't get away with some of his antics on the international stage

Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Is it him, or Ferguson? Or maybe a combination of the 2?redzonerocker wrote:Unlike a number of PL refs, continental ones aren't intimidated by him & he certainly won't get away with some of his antics on the international stage

Oh yeah, you'd definitely want him on your side, it just really annoys me to read about this "best england player of his generation " "best since........ "redzonerocker wrote:BaaBaa. wrote:

Gerrard should have a world player trophy, Rooney shouldn't.

Yeah, it's a tough old life being a top pro footballer. The poor wages, the lack of recognition, the cheap trophies...

A fantastic result for the Irish who have all but secured their qualification for Euro 2012.
Look well if they get drawn in the same group as England or France !

Beat Spain, probably favourites now and the best team of all time.
Re: Euro 2012
But England usually put up a good performance against the decent teams. It's the crap teams they don't perform against.

After this great victory, I'd like to see some comments about foreign managers, please.

I wouldn't say it was a great victory, but it was very welcome, especially with the new(ish) blood on show against the world champions. You can never judge a team on the basis of a friendly, but I take a lot of encouragement from the way the inexperienced England managed to contain the mighty Spanish in the first half. I'd have liked to have seen both sides complete the 90 minutes (with the starting line-up +/- no more than 3 substitutes) - then it might have been considered a great victory.

It was like a merry go-round by the end, to the extent you only knew of a new arrival when they had the ball at their feet - or not in Downings case!
