Nobody should be surprised by the United result.Since they beat Chelsea 3-1 on 18th September there hasnt been a decent performance from them.
Whats gone wrong since such a flying start to the season ? It cant all be down to injuries,youth and inexperience.Guys like Rooney,in particular,and Nani should reflect on the crap theyve produced in the last 10 weeks or so.
Out of the top 7 clubs in the Premiership,United must be about 6th or 7th on current form and if this continues then Champions League football may well elude them next season.
Lucky we arent playing Arsenal away at the Emirates this weekend or their could be a reversal of that 8-2 scoreline.
Mike Phelan comes across as a decent type of guy but a no.2 at a top Premiership club,no way......bring Carlos Queiroz back before its too late.

Bad luck to Citeh.Getting 10 points in such a difficult group wasnt a bad effort but,ultimately,failing to beat Napoli in their opening match cost them a place in the last 16.

Actually, I don't think that was such a great performance either - just look at the match stats. That was a game we should have won and it really set alarm bells ringing for me re: our new wonder boy and I wasn't wrong.

Change of tactics on Wednesday worked to a degree - we were deeper defensively but the new midfield was stretched and porous and allowed too many longer range / edge of box efforts. But we did look sharp in attack.

I see Citeh have been made favourites for the Thursday league. Stoke will give them a good run in the final!

^^Agree with most of the above - perhaps the "yes men" comment a bit unfair? As the No. 2 you probably have to compromise more than the boss...

I read some reviews of the Man U - Basel game that suggested Man U dominated. I only saw the 2nd half, but it looked pretty even (at best) to me.

I agree totally that they are not the team they were, BUT... they are getting the results in the Premiership, and as long as they keep grinding out these 1-0 wins, even when not "deserved", they are keeping their nose in front of everyone except City. I'm kinda hoping they start losing a few...

As far as Spurs are concerned, we not only need to win by at least 4, probably 5 against Shamrock (clearly achievable, but still a fairly big ask), but we also have to hope that Salonika beat Rubin Kazan, and that the two teams don't settle for a draw that would see them both safely through - obviously the most likely outcome.

Having said that, it's difficult to imagine that the Spurs management will be too bothered, as they've treated the Europa League like the Carling Cup, saving their best teams for the Premier league. A mistake in my view - winning can become a habit, and it's obviously a habit that should be encouraged, particularly in Europe.

Nah, not a mistake, winning is becoming a habit, we play the same team in the PL and we are winning. Sending our 2nd squad to all corners of the europe was the correct way to play it however they were a little light weight. I cannot see us progressing and if we do it will be good for the young ones. My preference is to get out of it and concentrate on PL.

Well you would have expected manure to comfortably get a draw at Basel & progress.
To be fair, i think they did enough to merit one.

Two poor defensive lapses & it was all over.

Sure they had their share of bad luck, but they've had their share over the years in this competition, it seems it just ran out.

Apart from the more important consequences from footballing perspective, the financial ramifications could be just as damaging.
Thursday night Europa league matches might not be so appealing to the OT faithful & then there's the Sunday PL matches to adjust to.
Especially worrying when there was 23k empty seats for the recent carling cup 1/4 final against Palace

Perhaps they'll recoup some of the money with the new joint business venture with Man City.
