Employment in sign making business in Hua Hin

Post by kirkyboy »

I would like to know of any sign companies in or near Hua Hin. I am in the industry in Melbourne, Australia and coming to Hua Hin again in April and would like to visit any sign companies there. What would be the chances of gaining employment part time as I always see signs that always have spelling mistakes. Would appreciate any ideas.

The short answer to this is zero, I'm afraid, as you quite simply won't get a work permit. :(

The spelling and grammar mistakes in signs for private companies and local authorities are endemic here despite the vast numbers of well-qualified farang residents who would be only too happy to help.
Even Tesco Lotus has its moments. I remember seeing a massive sign by the fish section for SEA PRAMS, which conjured up some marvellous images.
Whether it is to do with the elusive concept of "face", a lack of professionalism or "mai bpen rai", Thais simply don't care very much about such things.
This is the way

Yes, I think it's a case many times of just too proud to ask or have a foreigner proof read. Someone in an office pipes up and states that they have taken courses and know how to write something.....and that's all the boss needs to hear. It does make for some wonderful photos though as tourists travel around and see them. :D Pete

During the floods the "management" bricked up both the entry and exits openings to the under croft car park of the Condo as a precaution against inundation. In the event it was never required, but then nobody could convince them to remove the walls when it became obvious that they were not needed.

Classic!
One thing annoyed me particularly last month though - met a Thai woman who lives in Texas and who was back in NongKhai for a holiday. She spoke very good English indeed. One day she had a 'student' - a Thai chef who needed help with his resume. Sat at the guest house caff going through his spiel with him (no pretence of privacy of course) and she was reciting the resume with him parrot fashion - with no attempt at all to put the student right on some basic mistakes. Things which are endemic when Thais speak English, like 'which is locate' instead of 'located' - and the rambling 3 or 4 words used when one would do.
