hello new thai traveller here..

Post by Shakes12 »

Hi all,

been wanting to go to Thailand for a number of years and heard plenty of varied opinions - i figure your own is the better- so we're looking to do a family holiday in June.

Now my only issue is never being there before and having a family is where is better - Hua Hin looks lovely and i'm interested to go here, however i have a 3year old and a 16 year old so activities will vary for both and want them to be entertained as well - is Hua Hin the place for this? Having a 16 year old who likes to shop also is it an ok place to maybe fit that in or is travelling to a big city pretty hard from Hua Hin?

also having a 3 year old convience stores/marts would be really helpful but am unsure how accesible the majority of these are from the hotels??

any help is greatly appreciated

Kind Regards!

Welcome to the forum Shakes12. I've been travelling to Hua Hin for many years since my son was quite young. As far as I know, he's always been kept amused. He's now 21, and still manages to keep himself occupied. In my opinion Hua Hin is the perfect family destination in Thailand.

Hua Hin is great for living with a family and play golf.
Short time holiday I would say its much nicer ocean, beaches in Phuket (though the island is crowded and plenty of hawkers). For shopping (and giant indoor playground, ice skating, zoo, water-amusement parks, live music etc.) Bangkok is where to go, unless a boarder market close to Cambodia sounds fun?

Agree with all of the above. This is the best place in Thailand I can think of for a relaxing family vacation especially if you want something near the beach.

Before we moved here permanently we came every year on a holiday and we went to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Samui, and Chang Mai as well as many places around Issan. None of those come close imo as a family vacation destination (only possibly Chang Mai if you are not interested in being near the beach/ocean and want a bigger city).
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Hi Shakes and welcome to the forum. I also agree that Hua-Hin is the best part of the country if you have a family. As far as your questions are concerned.........There are hundreds of convenience stores, so no matter where about in Hua-Hin you are, you'll always be close to a few. There's also plenty in terms of shopping opportunities, and while I hate shopping, I would imaging it's far more pleasant doing it in HH rather than in Bangkok. Also plenty of activities here nowadays. If you do find yourself getting bored, Bangkok is just a short trip away.
