This was posted in another thread so I've started a new one to ask what the requirements are for working with a permit if you have a visa extension based on marriage as I did not think it was possible.bapak wrote:Main reason that I am pushing Marriage Extension is that I am assuming that you are under retirement age... and also you would be able to get a Work Permit if needed.

FWIW, I just asked the lady who helps with ours and she said basically you can, and you would need the usual supporting documentation from an employer, as was as ditto from your wife/kids. S seems like double the effort but a key advantage of not having to leave the country shortly after ending employment.buksida wrote:This was posted in another thread so I've started a new one to ask what the requirements are for working with a permit if you have a visa extension based on marriage as I did not think it was possible.bapak wrote:Main reason that I am pushing Marriage Extension is that I am assuming that you are under retirement age... and also you would be able to get a Work Permit if needed.
She is prone to duff information now and then, so I wouldn't rely on this too much!?

Absolutely correct. Rule was changed about 3 years ago. I have posted previously on this issue.buksida wrote:This was posted in another thread so I've started a new one to ask what the requirements are for working with a permit if you have a visa extension based on marriage as I did not think it was possible.bapak wrote:Main reason that I am pushing Marriage Extension is that I am assuming that you are under retirement age... and also you would be able to get a Work Permit if needed.
The application for a Work Permit is no different then the normal procedure with a "B" visa.
Over the past few years we have obtained WPs for a number of teachers who have Marriage Extension. One was on a Retirement Extension which he changed to Marriage Extension.
Re: Getting a work permit on a marriage 'O' visa
So effectively there is absolutely no point to it as it is double the paperwork (proof of marriage and employment), you may as well just get the B visa instead of an O.

Re: Getting a work permit on a marriage 'O' visa
The advantage is that if WP is cancelled, you do not have to leave Thailand within 7 days. You still maintain your Marriage Extension status.buksida wrote:So effectively there is absolutely no point to it as it is double the paperwork (proof of marriage and employment), you may as well just get the B visa instead of an O.
Re: Getting a work permit on a marriage 'O' visa
Is it possible then to transfer a B visa to an O (based on marriage/child support) on an existing work permit to prevent a possible 7 day red card.

Off the top of my head I would say yes but TIT. Although the word visa is not in the equation... Just a change from your present Extension to a Marriage Extension but you will need to showbuksida wrote:Is it possible then to transfer a B visa to an O (based on marriage/child support) on an existing work permit to prevent a possible 7 day red card.
