Siani - Wrong War !
1950's - Cold War listening stations? The last two look built to withstand some sort of attack.

Not war bunkers from the past wars. Bunkers for the next one
When I lived in Kingsclere (Berks) there were underground tunnels and bunkers linking Greenham Common and Aldermaston. There was enough fire power under that area (and maybe my garden) to put the UK in orbit. The places were secured by armed guards usually hiding in ditches and behind trees
If so the first is Fylingdales on the north Yorkshire moors and the second is in the Aldermaston region

Well done Richard, they're the guardrooms and entrances of old Cold War nuclear bunkers disguised to look like houses from the air and the first one is at what was RAF Goldsborough in Yorkshire near to the later station at Fylingdale moor.richard wrote:Underground war bunkers?

No, the second is Kelvedon Hatch in Essex which was originally part of the air defense network but later became a regional Government HQ and the third is near Anstruther in Fife and was the bunker for Scotlands regional Government.
These were all multi-level bunkers capable of housing several hundred people.

Re: History Challenge
Incidentally, the old nuclear bunker at Kelvedon Hatch is now a museum which is why you get road signs like this that create a bit of mirth:

No. 1 The Shot Tower in Derby (for the manufacture of lead shot)
No. 2 ditto, Crane Park, West London
No. 3 ditto, Chester
No. 2 ditto, Crane Park, West London
No. 3 ditto, Chester
This is the way
Re: History Challenge
Well done, that was quick! Yes they're shot towers where lead shot was manufactured by dropping molten lead into a pool of water and you even got the right ones.
