Paleo Beach Shack - no more?

Post by lomuamart »

Was walking the beach earlier today and noticed that the Paleo (think that's how it's spelt) was being demolished. That was the beach place just down from The Sofitel. A JCB and wrecking crew were in attendance and the shack was little more than rubble at 9.30am.
I don't know if they're going to rebuild or have been evicted but if the latter then it's another "landmark" gone from the HH beachfront.
I never used it very much but it had been in existence since before I arrived here.

Used it few times and particularly when my daughters were over

Informal and some soft rock music played when the Thai rastas there were stoned just before sunset :rasta:

Not the nicest bar in Hua Hin, especially the toilets, but we've got some nice memories. A big shame

Was that the noisy place? If so, I can't say I'll miss it.

Yesterday morning there came many police, a buldozer, lot's off workers and after a lot off "talking" they started to break the whole place down. The rasta's took as quick as they could their belongings..his drumms, the music installitation and everything they had. I think it has something to do with permits.
It was sad to see... i will try put some pics here..

That was the noisy place; it wasn't my kind of thing but I know many others liked it.
Incidentally, that's the closest I've seen a Royal Air Force ensign to the sea since they closed their Marine Branch in the eighties!

A real shame in my opinion, every beach needs a little chilled music and vibe, not great musicians but really nice guys.
I always used to neck a few beers and have a laugh with those guys.

Beach squatters... it will happen some day to all the over-the-beach restaurants down the road from the Hilton too.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

What is that large brown construction to the right of it (its been a while since I've been to HH beach)? If that has anything to do with the Sofitel Paleo has probably been muscled out. Shame, used to be a great little spot - Hua Hin is now officially devoid of a beach bar.

It's a new hotel, I'm sure. Muscled out still sounds about right though.

Passed by again a few hours ago and it is a new hotel - Sea Breeze or something but it's just to the right. However, the land directly behind the shack looks pretty derelict. Maybe that's going to be developed now?

HHF : The 22 beach restaurants in front of the Hilton are all licensed by the Tessabahn and many have been in the same family for years. There was a meeting about moving them to another location around 10 years ago but they are still there and if they banish them where will all the tourists staying in the town sit, eat and drink on the beach ?

There was also a suggestion that proper accommodation would be built for them as the ramshackle multi coloured 'huts' are not pleasing to the eye and they paid a regular tax/rent. At the moment they pay an annual fee of under 2,000 Baht only!

I've just taken my first walk along the beach since arriving in Thailand. I see Paleo Beach Bar is still there, albeit in a much reduced format. No sign of drum kit etc.

During the walk, I was very surprised at how many new sun bathing areas (sun beds) had appeared. Are these all public, or are they linked to nearby hotels?
