Not just villages enless you call Bangkok one. Thai lakorn(A hour atleast a day) and hot pot are mainstay with my wife. I do not know how she does it but she sniffs out all the Thai females in the area and they do this pot luck thing and talk(Yak) In thai about the short comings of their husbands once a week or so and or call home and talk to their sister about what has changed since the last day they spoke(The day before)and such.
One word is not a story but it is the beginning and end of one.

I say "bless them" the most important thing to a thai overseas is to eat good food and share it with friends nothing wrong with that. :thumb:

The open posters friend sounds like he wants a trophy wife by his side all the time or maybe he is insecure because of the 30 year age gap and is worried that other men might try and hit on his hottie. :|

In the UK there are many thai festivals and we attend some of them, i am always amazed at how many thai's thier are in the UK and the love of food really does bring them together.

Yes, even here in Luxembourg there is quite a community of Thai wifes and family members who tend to congregate around a couple of small Thai cafes. It's good fun and can be entertaining as a couple of them haven't been back to where they're from in Issan for more than twenty years and we can chat away about how things have changed up there.

It's a picnic, right? We have these in England too :D

Seriously though, apart from the fact it's 'all-thai' and all-woman, I don't see it to be different from a lot of get together me and my mates used to have back in England.

And it's quite normal for groups of people for similar situations (in this case strangers in a foreign country, missing home/family) to club together. There's plenty of places in Hua Hin where it tends to be only ex-pats hanging around!

:agree: Seems only normal to me that someone in a foreign country would seek out others that are from their own culture, who speak their language, every so often, to catch up on things from the homeland and just generally chat. :thumb:
